It would be great if it had an ethernet interface, but I doubt it does
and therefore its just a cool looking phone.
Does anyone use dialup anymore ?

Well I still use dialup at home and these do look cool. It looks like it's a Web Touch One not a Plus which means 33.6kbps modem. That's too slow even for me. Also no serial or printer port.

Select the Plus and then pick the little One icon on the right...

If these could be hacked to act like a Ceiva Picture Frame (but with some form of free service) we would be talking one cool device. The photos get to the device by either an email or an automatic down load from a server.

Well IF we cant hack it maybe it will be just a big cool looking phone with caller ID?! haha

I am hopping I can get the phone to overide the ips. If we can do that. We could possibbly disable the modem and tie direcetly in to the internal serial port. our luck the modem will not be a module and not tied to a serial port haha :) Well the phone still looks cool.

Any updates from those that ordered these? I got mine last week. It's pretty cool for the price, but obviously would be great if the modem speed could be increased...

This is the manufacturer's support page. There are a few links to software upgrades there. According to the FAQs it runs Java but is not upgradeable and does not support broadband.

It already works with any dial-up ISP that doesn't require software download. Has anyone opened it up to take a look inside?

I opened up mine; its a plethora of descrete boards, 4 to be exact. Its definitely not designed for manufacturability, but how dare I question the French!

The CPU board uses a MPC823 PowerPC chip. This board also carries the non-upgradable 33.6 modem chip, ram, rom, and flash chips. Its a cute little thing that's not much bigger than a 3.5" hard drive when its shielding is installed. This CPU is targeted at the PDA market, so I don't think there is an IDE interface.

There is also a power/modem-interface board, a card reader board, and a button board.

I think this thing could run Linux, but that's beyond my capabilities. I could probably overclock the thing and maybe hack a USB port onto it, but software is not my bag. Sure would be fun though!
