well, since most of this info just went public 1/14/03 (three weeks ago) i imagine they'll take another three to six months to make it to store shelves.
unless the MPAA tries to prevent them from being imported from South Korea into the U.S. (ooops!! i've probably just given Jack Valenti and his thug friends an idea i wish they didn't consider )
Although it's definitely not as high tech as the Mbox, I recently bought a couple of the Norcent DP300 type dvd players. They are quite nice since they use a DVD rom IDE drive. Most AE and HE111 series have flashable firmware. There's a lot of information here:
I'm not sure how the availability in the States is like, but in Canada, these units sell at Walmart for $87 CDN. The JE series isn't hackable yet I believe, but people have released various firmware "upgrades" the other series. Some have hidden menus where you can disable the region code and macrovision. This Mbox looks cool since it has Divx capabilities.
