This isn't really breaking news, but I didn't see a general area under other internet appliances and didn't know where else to put it.
I won the following item on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3316&item=3012310206&rd=1
I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with this puppy.
I looked at the manufacturer's website at http://www.idvdbox.com/ but all of the information is dated. The pictures all show a black i2DVD unit, but the one I've got is gold. I watched the webcast from CNet and they are demoing a gold model, so I feel that this is either a prototype or a limited model for market testing. I checked Layfayette's website at http://www.lafayetteelectronics.com/ and don't see any mention of the i2DVD.
This device looks pretty neat. It uses a Geode processor and has a CyberDrive DVD-ROM in it. I resolved the physical damage mentioned in the auction. The problems I'm still left with is that the DVD-ROM doesn't spin up. The laser works, it ejects and loads, but just doesn't spin. I've taken it apart and checked everything I know to check, but I think I'm just going to have to replace the drive (a CyberDrive DM126D).
The other problem is that I don't have either the remote or the keyboard for this thing. I'm going to try to call iDVDbox and Lafayette and see if I can get more info, but I'm skeptical at this point.
Any suggestions? Any ideas if this ever made it to market?
