Here's a lot of single board computers: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3424677527&category=1244

The description mentions an LCD controller. Does anyone know what kind of displays it could control? I have several IBM displays from a 760EL and a couple from Wincor POS terminals. Would these work?

BTW, not my auction

The 65545 video device data sheet can be got from:

ftp://download.intel.com/design/graphics/mobilegraphics/datashts/ds170_2.pdf

Hope that helps,

cheers,

ctorkildson: A 65545 can drive a large variety of LCD displays. One just needs the right software tools, panel timing information and a custom cable. If you are (very, very) lucky you can find a BIOS for the motherboard that already supports your panel (or is at least "pretty close"). Otherwise, you'll have to make your own video BIOS. This can be a lot of work.

That particular board is a bit too expensive for what it is. If you watch eBay long enough, you should be able to find something similar for around $50.

HTH.

This is for a lot of 5! I would love to have one of them to play with, so who else wants to go in on these and split the cost?

Let me know if you are interested, how many you would like, what you are willing to pay, and I will make it happen.

Thanks
Eric

banshee35: Thanks for pointing out the "lot 5" thing. I interpreted this as meaning something like "batch number 5". The seller has a few other auctions where he explicitly states "lot of 20" ("of" being the key word) in both in the auction title and description. This is probably what he means for the PCM-5860 auction. However, the wording is ambiguous enough that I would ask the seller to verify the meaning before bidding. I've been burned by wording like this before.

If the auction is for 5 machines, then it is a great deal. I have a bunch of the PCM-5862's (similar board with on-board audio). I've worked out a few hacks for the machine like voltage mods to run the lower voltage K6 CPU's and custom video BIOS's.

The motherboard would make a great car computer/MP3 player as well as having many other uses.

BTW, I have spare LCD panels that I've made work with my 5862's. These should also work with the 5860's. Contact me a smoke_liberator at yahoo dot com if you want more info about these.

Wanna part with one of yours?

I agree, it should probably be clarified before anybody goes bidding crazy on it.

I e-mailed the seller and they in fact said it was a lot of 5. Additionaly, I e-mailed the guy who is the high bidder at the moment and asked if he would be interested in selling jsut one of them if he won and he said "sure" so might be a good way to go for anyone else who is interested.

I was looking at one for a car computer/mp3/navigation system and don't need anything real fast so it would be perfect for me. I am interested though in finding out a bit more about getting an LCD to work with them. I would really like a touchscreen one!

ctorkildson & Glitch:

if you were buying from the manufacturer or authorized distributor, a detailed manual and bios modification disk would probably come with the SBC. the disk would have bios code and software to install it for various common types of display.

i had a Biscuit PC SBC that was that way. it had all i needed to know to connect any of several common lcd displays and software to flash the bios to run the display.

the seller on Ebay does not even include a manual.

have fun,

oldman

So it all comes down to how much information you have about the SBC and the LCD. That's the big problem with this hobby. I have all sorts of really interesting stuff that I can't get to work because I don't have the manuals. And the ability to make cables seems critical. Does anyone have a good (online) source for solderable connectors and cables?

Glitch, I can't imagine your shop where you have all this stuff. Have you written BIOSs for LCDs? Pretty impressive.

Think I'll pass this round, I have way too many projects to finish.

This seller has another auction that just started and i've put a bid in for them. If anyone would like to take one of these off of my hands (if and when I get them), I'll be more then happy to sell the excess. I want two at this time and will let the other 3 go for whatever 1/5th (for each) of the cost plus any shipping is...

Looks like this board was made by Advantech. If you search their site under support for PCM-5860 they list a "Utility" and a BIOS. Had a problem when I tried to download but I'm on a Mac at the moment. They also have some articles in the Knowledge Base.

I'm sure there's more info out there but I need to get back to work ;)

Does anyone know where I can find an LCD display ? With football season coming I thought it would be cool to one of the LCD/Ticker displays and constantly scroll scores across while I sit on the couch and watch Football :)
