it is very scary that people have found so many flaws with the diebold and other e-voting machines. with elections coming up this tuesday 3/2/04 it makes me think someone should make a stand and crack these things and show the world how unsafe they are. here is the publicly released source code for the diebold voting machines and some internal memos of theres: http://scdc.sccs.swarthmore.edu/diebold/

Now that these machines are being banned in Califorina and other states are getting rid of them, this comment may fit. Let me know if anyone sees one on eBay!

They will make great MP3 players.

It's funny - we would NEVER have built an ATM as carelessly as we built our voting machines. ATM's were built with multiple companies, some of which had the sole job of auditing everyone else and quadrupple-checking their work. Everything is tripple-redundant with relentless transaction tracking and logging and backout algorythyms.

But we let a single company do the entire voting machine - interesting. Could have been worse - we could have let Billy G's people build them with those pretty blue screens that go away before you can read them...
