Current I am using HA for most of the functions in my home and just recently had installed a sprinkler system. The system installed is all Rainbird and utilizing a Rainbird ESP modular controller. The controller appears to have some intelligence to it and has connectivity to an external wireless controller via 6 pins. Wondering how proprietary the communications is or whether it's just a serial like to an external controller. Found a parts list for the controller but no schematic. It appears to have a propietary CPU custom made for Rainbird. I want to leave the controller in place (this relates to WAF) and not switch it over to a more HA friendly type of controller (Rain8, etc). Any suggestions?

Anything new here? I have one too and would like to add some sort of external computer control. I have looked over the patent info and have no idea of the protocol used for the remote interface.

RE:Rainbird ESP controller Looking to hack (modified 0 times)
Ended up ripping my Rainbird out. Installed two Rain8net and using them with an application called mcsSprinklers and Homeseer. In the garage I installed a 7" touch screen and it is using MainLobby. Works well.
