Has anybody received one of these. I ordered one on the 'buy it now' option,
paid immediately with paypal. No product received, no response from email to
the seller.

I was wondering if anyone else got one too. I just shot off a message last night addressing the no show of the board. No reponse yet. The eBay record looks clean from their feedback and some people have got them from earlier auctions. Ill give it another week (or 1 month from purchase date) before persuing action via eBay.

Just received notice that my board has been shipped. I think the timeline went:

paypal sent on the 10th
paypal cleared on the 14th
parcel shipping "Canada Post Expedited Parcel" on the 17th

You'd think that after a week that the Canada Post tracking page would have some detail info, but it doesn't.

I finally got my board today in the mail. I paid on the 8th with paypal, the box is postmarked on the 17th and it arrived on the 25th. Nice and slow all around. A nice 5 WORK day delay in getting it out, says within 3 days on the auction, and 8 days to get to me. I get items faster from China and Australia when I order it than from Canada. Its getting to the point where I dont want to do business with Canada at all. I already dont sell to Canada via eBay and now I guess Ill wont buy from Canada. Well.... Unless a nice deal comes up like this. :)

Paypal has a new restriction on "e-checks", which amount to a waiting period to make sure your check doesn't bounce. I have had people complain to me because I waited a week or more to ship their stuff. PayPal claims it is designed to prevent fraud, and they are probably right, but this new policy eliminates the whole advantage of PayPal - instant gratification.

So, I now offer people the option of mailing me a money order or using PayPal. In many cases, the MO will arrive sooner than PayPal clears, and I waive (obviously) charging extra to cover the fees for MO's, since MO's already typically cost between $0.90 and $1.20. (In case you were wondering, most sellers on eBay charge extra for shipping to cover transaction costs)

Just keep that in mind - the seller may not be slow, or ripping you off. It could be that PayPal is at fault.

I've also noticed the delay in eChecks recently.

In my case, I noted both when the paypal transaction initiated and cleared. The tracking number that I was provided shows that my boards also shipped on the 17th. And that's all it shows. Hopefully they'll arrive today, as I'm feeling just a little tardy knowing that everyone else has had theirs for days now!

Received mine this week - does anyone know of a place where you can obtain a df9 cable to attach the lcd to the board - for a reasonable price? Digikey has them, but they cost more than the board does.

Here's a link to the bootloader docs: http://www.applieddata.net/developers/linux/files/boot/bootrom.pdf
I tried to backup the existing onboard flash partitions (with the existing web payphone app), but I screwed up the dip switch settings and ended up writing a new kernel and ramdisk. I was interested in the existing stuff. Oh well.

The bootloader is very limited--from what I can tell, the only option is to copy from PCMCIA to onboard flash. No apparent option to TFTP boot. I've been using a PCMCIA to smartmedia adapter, a smartmedia to xD adapter, and an xD card (Juicebox tools!) to get the files across. Seems to be working fine. A CF/PCMCIA adapter might be a more logical and inexpensive choice.

Serial console is on J10, the shrouded 2x5 header. RS-232 levels, so it's an easy interface to a PC.

Prebuilt kernel and ramdisk files available at: http://www.applieddata.net/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=663

You may have to do a painless registration to gain access to these parts of the ADS forum. Looks like they've got the vast majority of their forum closed to non-customers, so even peer-to-peer assistance may be tricky to come by. I tried every number on the board as the dev system 'Access Code' during the forum registration process, but none were valid.

What is the pinout for com3? I have tried all the combinations I can think of, and the best I seem to get is a loopback of some kind (it sends back whatever I type.) I never see any boot messages.
Thanks

I found it tough to ID pin 1 on some of the connectors...had to look for the square pad on the solder side.

Did you have to do anything other than apply 5V to pins 1&2 of J5? I set JP6 to use internal 3.3V and applied 5V but I
don't get anything on serial.

Fairly certain on serial 3 pinout as I have a ready made IDC to serial adapter from some old computer -- it's keyed just like the socket and the pin 1 red strip corresponds with pin 1 on the header.

Mine came set to generate internal 3.3V, so I went with +5V on J5 pin 1, ground on J5 pin 2. That was enough to get blinky lights.

Hey, I didn't think of that. I've probably got one of those cables around here too.

I went with J10 pin 5 (serial out) and J10 pin 9 (ground). J10 pin 3 is the serial input. That works for me at least.

Speaking of blinky lights, does anything light up when the board boots (like one of those 3 LEDs)? I'm thinking my problem might be power -- the wall wart only creates 500 mA and I'm wasting quite a bit of power in my generic 7805 circuit.

Yep, blinky lights at boot. I measured 409mA max, 300mA mean from boot to login prompt (no ethernet, no PCMCIA, no LCD, just serial output). Try adding a nice big 'lytic cap on your 5V rail and monitor the voltage...if it dips too far, the board will hand in a undervoltage reset loop.

I got mine to boot, watched the boot messages, created a CF with a new kernel, started booting that, and then DEAD. After testing, I determined my supposed 2A power supply failed by going unregulated and putting 22V on the 5V rail.
I ordered another one...

When it's dead do you still get 1V on pin 5?

What is everyone using as a power supply?

Actually, it is only partially dead - parts of the board dependent on 5v are dead. With a good power supply it comes up in an infinite reboot loop. The lights light up, then the amber one goes off, and then the reboot message just repeats endlessly (obviously the processor, at least part of the eprom, the max serial level converters, and possibly the ram still work. I suspect the flash is dead.)

I found the kernels provided on ADS's site don't work properly with their provided Debian distributions when used with a GCPlus. I have not yet managed to get one to boot the full, CF microdrive based version, however, I managed to get one kernel to work with the jffs2 dist:

I did some more work on my board, and placed the results in:
http://www.jpedty.net/dl/gcplus

I got the ADS demo jffs flash distribution working. The version in the above directory has ttySA0 configured for a serial mouse, so if you want to use it without an LCD you will need to modify inittab first. It has X11, an xterm, a minimal brower, and a few other things.
I also tried getting the ADS developent distribution working, however I did not get it to work with anything nontrivial.
Also, I was unable to get Wi-Fi working - it appears to try to load modules for which there does not appear to be sources - if anyone manages this please let me know.
