Which ones? The IO's, or the WS pro's?

@home is broadband - cable, isn't it?

I recently got cable access and adore it myself. Roadrunner. Some teething problems initially, and I had to tell them which of their routers had a corrupted router table keeping me out of certain sites -- but other than that, it's been FAB.

Best of all possilbe worlds? No. Fast as hell? Yes. And not so expensive either.

I ordered two at CC in San Jose (Almaden Plaza) on 3/18 and they arrived sometime last week. I don't know exactly when, because nobody called me to tell me they were in. I just happened to call yesterday to complain AGAIN, when someone said "They're here. They've been here for a while. Come and get them out of the storeroom before we sell them to someone else."

Way all the fuss over a P166 computer? You can get em for under 100 on e-bay and even less at a local computer shop. No waiting - no soldering - HD included.

The plan is to not call the 'hackers' and hope they don't pick them up. Then sell them to 'real' customers.
Wait, I'm wrong, I forgot they are not 'hackable' anymore.

Well after ordering 3 IO's from CC on 3/12 I just picked up two. They didn't call me and tell me they were in even though I had called my sales contact many times up until the last month. They even 'refunded' one of my IO's so only two were delivered. I didn't request the 'refund'/cancelled unit but that didn't matter and they had no record of who did it. Now I end up paying $40 for shipping to get one to my mom directly from IO....
I guess if you wait long enough, you might get most of what you want. Now if only the WinChip2's weren't so $$.

After reading the thread here, I called CC, and found they actually had my two backorders in stock (Pasadena store). Of course, I called them every week for the last two months, and always the response "we'll call you when they come in" - of course they didn't call.

The machines have a 3/23 bios, and a manuf date of 4/27 - the bios is gooped but IDE header has all the pins.

I got mine less than a week ago, and I'm in MA. Nobody from CC called me, I was going to call up and cancel my order, but it was there, and I picked it up. I haven't opened it up yet, but I can see that the BIOS is gooped.

Here at my CompUSA I work at in MI, we have 8 on order...they've been on order for about a week or more. There were actually 16 like a week ago on order, I dunno how it got to 8, considering we never got any in since. As far as Circuit Cities go, I haven't called them.

New MessageRE:There back @ CC (modified 0 times) dknight
Insider Info , this seems to fit with what the CUSA manager in New Hampsire told me, She said they had 20 on order, then 16 and now 8, she seems to feel that it will go down to zero in the next few weeks. She doesn't belive any back orders will be filled. But Isn't that almost exactly what happened at CC ? And those who waited it out at CC are now getting their units, well if they call alot....

New MessageRE:There back @ CC (modified 0 times) dknight
Heh, Salem NH, I just came back from there, spoke to some of the other managers, who were all cool. Neither the store manager or the one that kinda freaked out on me was there. I explained to them that I have nothing against CUSA, and I have nothing against the managers of that store personaly. I just feel that the only way I am ever going to see those units is to inquire and complain on a daily basis now. It seemed to work for the people who had CC backorders. I told them that the squeaky wheel usually gets greased, and I intend to hang on to my pre orders until I get them or until NPLI goes under, either way I don't expect that I'll have to wait too much longer for one or the other to happen. As expected, they declined to put anything in writing, and referred me to the store manager who will be in tommorow.

Mine just came in (Boulder CO), ordered 3/15. No call, they just said "it's in" when I made my biweekly check (couldn't stand to do it more often than that, they routinely put me on hold and hang up). Was so shocked when I went to pick it up and it was THERE (I also had a false alarm earlier), that I forgot to ask any other questions (do you have any more?), etc. ;)

Phone tip: if they're all using the same phone system as ours, hitting '0' at the main menu (which doesn't specify anything for '0') will put you through to the service desk.

Gotta open it up now and see which one I got. =)

Ha. Funny. A week ago CC called to say the Iopeners were recalled/cancelled.

On a whim, I just called (after reading this thread), and the service desk
reports my special order Iopener is in. No phone call from them...

What a messed up organization.

Whahoo! Got a call from my friendly neighborhood CC last night. Seems that my I-Opener ordered back on 3/21 finally made it into the Pasadena, CA store. It was either that or my original salesman finally woke up as other folks have posted getting theirs at this store as well.

Cool, clean fast check out. The saleman seemed completely oblivious to why we all want this thing. At any rate, TOS? Heck no!

I don't see a manufacture date but I'm sure some nice person has been considerate enought to give me an update bios and apply some swell glue to the bios.

I'm in Mpls.

Iopened mine tonight, I had the 4 security torx screws, (hair-dryer removed) security sticker, a gooped bios chip, the 200Mhz WinChip, and the best news is: no clipped pins on the IDE header.

Hi,
Ok, I got mine last Sunday, got a call last Friday afternoon from the CC saleswoman. The odd part is my wife ordered 9 days after I did, and hasn't got one. They tried very forcefully to return her money. Is there any liklihood they'll be fulfilling orders which weren't satisfied this round? We didn't accept the cash back, however the CC manager was amazingly pessimistic about getting hers in, even after mentioning to him mine was in this Sunday.

Any suggestions on how to get the I-Opener out of CC appreciated

I had gone in to CC to get a replacement receipt yesterday, because mine has nearly faded away and the clerks told me that CC had unilaterally cancelled my order on May 9th.

No one bothered to notify me, and I have received no refund of my $20.

I originally ordered on 3/12

I was told by my CC rep (over the phone) that the I-Opener was a discontinued item, and to come in and get my refund. I didn't, and went to the Customer Service desk a week or so later to pick-up my V3B I-Opener. My reciept was badly faded, too, but they still honored it. If they didn't refund your deposit, you my still have a chance to collect one. -Spike

I ordered two units on 3/12 with a deposit of $20 each. I got a call two days ago on 5/27 from the local CC. They said they finally got 7 units in and to come and pick my two units up. Which I did. Unit #1 is now in pieces.

Patience paid off. I wonder if I shouldn't have picked up all seven units?

Whats this I hear about a proxied BIOS and clipped IDE pins? Just heard about it from neighborhood techy a week ago. Anyone know what MFG dates has these mods. Anyone else able to tell me (Win98 baby) how to fix proxied BIOS or is this just big pile of BS.

CC in WI has plenty of the little darlings.
