will someone please explain how i use the dakotaconfig, main, exe's

with win 2000 it just flashes on the screen briefly then vanishes!

ive tried ms-dos, run-command, double clicking, spitting and swearing

How do i get these to work for my cameras, i have made a hotsync hack
and my 2 cameras connect ok...so what is an .xol and how do i use it to upgrade the firmware... i reviewed and researched all the sites and it is not very clear unless youre a programmer...i need to get these damn things finished!!!!
You probably guessed it i am not familiar with dumping and modifying/patching firmware...
can someone please walk me through...
Thanks again...mur

Same here with XP, except main and dakota info stays and displays some stuff before disappearing.
Also, here on the Camera board "Dakota Digital Camera - how many pictures?" says you can use a win 98 in dos mode to run them. Too bad I don't have one anymore.
Someone help us

In Windows XP use Command.com to get a DOS Prompt!

For XP/2000 go to Start -> Run. Type "cmd" in the box and hit enter for a command prompt window.

A .xor file is a file you need to XOR (exclusive OR) against the original firmware, which means it's a file that consists of the changes made to the original firmware. The author of the dakotatools releases this file due to possible legal liability if he releases a complete hacked firmware.

Basically, you need to download the original firmware from the camera, XOR it with the provided .xor file using the utility provided, and then upload the resulting file. If you're not familiar with using a command line interface, I'll be happy to walk you through when if I have the time.

my problem is now how do i run the .exe's??? what is the specific word
to "run" these exe's, after "C:\Documents and Settings\egg1>"???

note: the bin file is in egg1
sorry i am so inept, but i am flying solo here..and "help" command and googling isnt helping!

Type "dir" to see all files in the directory. You run the exe files file by typing the name at the command prompt. E.g. to run dakotainfo.exe type "dakotainfo" with or without the .exe, it doesn't matter.

You have to then add flags to the end of the command to make the exe files actually do anything.
For example type "dakotafirmware -d FILENAME" to download your camera's current firmware, where FILENAME is the name of the file you will create.
