Well, it happened... My camera's flash stopped working. The capacitor was still charging just fine, but the flash wouldn't fire. Knowing a bit about how camera flash circuits work, I decided to replace both the secondary (trigger) transformer and flash tube with parts from an Albersons (made by Konica) disposable 35mm camera with flash. What was intended to be a repair actually turned out to be a mod - the camera's flash is now MUCH brighter.
I'm not sure if the boost in brightness can be attributed to the flash tube or the larger trigger transformer or a combination of replacing both, but the flash range is now considerably improved.
