A locked camera does not allow pictures to be downloaded to PC. There are 2 methods of unlocking:

1. Sending a $80 getkey USB command followed by a $80 sendkey with a response key based on key returned from getkey. This works for old cameras that share a single key. Newer and Older cameras can be "reset" to a simple 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 key by following a specific procedure documented in these threads. There are currently only 2 known response keys - one for older firmwares and one for reset cameras. This unlock needs to be performed every time camera is hooked up to computer.

2. Change firmware to permanently unlock camera. This method is more complicated and not for dummies. Even when followed correctly it has "fried" cameras. So far there is no method to recover a fried camera.

I've been following this thread for quite some time, I've actually learned a lot about digital cameras following the threads from you guys I purchased a first generation RadioShack flat photo camera from eBay, I have one of the original ole blues I've taken thousands of pictures with and I'm really looking forward to using my Dakota digital PV-2 I've had it for quite some time also, but I'm not smart with software and modifying things like you guys, when you think you'll actually have working software for us dummies? And this time to you think you can make the skin a little better looking than the original blue that T.R. GibsonJohn Maush made? Plus is it going to have conflicts with my original blue? I read somewhere in the threads that might be an issue. Anyway if nothing else I'm certainly learning something about digital cameras, I've already learned not to point it at the sun from you guys. Keep up the good work

~I hope someone hasn't already asked this question and I haven't seen it. I feel like an idiot asking it, but I can't get my xp machine to view my 6430 or 6550 as a camera. All it says is that it's an unknown device. I've tried pointing it to both an edited che-ez inf and a usblib one. Both were "not for the hardware". I've got libusb running and it comes up with (this is for the 6430):

DLL version: 0.1.10.1
Driver version: 0.1.10.1

bus/device idVendor/idProduct
bus-0/\.\libusb0-0000--0x10b9-0x5237 10B9/5237

~Did I build my cable wrong or something?
