Time Lapse

I did a search and couldn't find this so I'm asking. Is there any way to "program" the blue Dakota camera for time lapse photography without a computer? Say take a photo at 8am, and 6pm?

I'm having my new home built and I need a ghetto construction camera, there's no power on-site right now I could tap for a webcam / computer combo.

Many thanks

well, found tons of hunting / game cameras, but they are all motion based. I was thinking about how the grabber software lets you manually take a photos.

Would it then be possible to create a custom circuit that would power up the camera, and send command to snap a photo every 2 /4 /8 hours set via dip switch?

Check out these links. There's a lot of info on building simple timer circuits with the LM555 chip.

I think we've got enough of an understanding of the firmware to be able to program this, but it won't be totally easy. The biggest problem is that since we don't have the bootloader figured out yet, doing this would probably accidently mess up a few cameras. Command $10 takes a picture, and it would take a little effort to modify the "start-usb mode" code to check a button and go into the timer mode. And we'd need to make a cable to power the camera with a bigger battery (maybe a couple of D-cells). Ugh, like I said, possible, but hard. It'll be a lot easier with the bootloader figured out to fix mess-ups.

Until then, a microcontroller / external timer would be a lot simpler. There are only two buttons to control.

thanks for replying ppl. Sadly, I don't have the skills to make anything electronic work. I guess I better start praying someone figures out the boot loader!
