My son is taking digital photography in middle school (School Board motto: The heck with reading and writing, let's worry about the important stuff) and the teacher recommended getting a "disposable" digital camera. I didn't even know that such an animal existed so I used Google and searched. One of the sites that popped up was this one which led to other sites. What a wealth of information.

Armed with knowledge, I bought a camera at Ritz and assaulted it with a screw driver and soldering iron. A couple hours later I had an inexpensive digital camera with a USB port in the side. My son is happy and is running around taking pictures without me yelling, "Do you know what it costs to process those pictures!?!"

Thanks to all who took the time to investigate these cameras.

Thanks for the feedback; I love photography and glad to see other enjoying it. That, and it was fun to hack!
