New MessageCVS an uncommon problem? (modified 0 times) untorn

Hello!
I just bought a CVS red
firmware 6530
hardware 06
type id 2b
cmp typeid 2b
realm id 20 <-- this is different then Tom Vickers

I am running windows xp pro service pack two (recently updated with hopes of getting this thing to work).
I plug my usb cable into my computer and I get a "USB Device not recognized" error (shown here http://sandro.blogspirit.com/images/desk.jpg)
Some of the details of the error are shown here http://sandro.blogspirit.com/images/driver.jpg

So, the problem is that I don't get the welcoming "Digital Camera Found" message, instead I get a message showing that it found some usb device but its malfunctioning.

Do you think my problem is hardware or software? The usb cable I hacked up was some kind of usb to rj45 cable, do you think this may be my problem? Or is it my camera's realm id? Yet again, is it my computer software?

I am desperate for feedback =).

Thanks.

My part time job.

another possibility.....your usb cable is wired wrong [ie] the +5 goes to a data line
I encountered this prob at startup.....windows would see it but can't use it........

1> determine what usb ID is being reported from camera
1a> USBVIEW can do this.....

2> modify inf file of desired driver to reflect this ID
2a> plug in camera ...it should now be recognized....unusable but recognized

3> to be able to use the cam it must be unlocked look thru THREADS FOR DETAILS.....
in a nut shell.....
basicly.....load LIBUSB driver and modify inf file [add ID] etc
use pv2tool to unlock.....

once unlocked verify that you can download entire firmware [16mb] etc.....
play with the read onlys until comfortable with what you are doing........
now you can modify [make sure you know what you are doing]
permently unlock cam ....loc x > change 1 to 2
loc y > set new ID if desired .....
1 -> 2 = +1 old ID -> New ID +/- value
now the adjust value [+1] + [+/- value] + byte at loc z
loc z > adjust another byte to account for crc
depending weather you modified firmware.bin or the big image file
write it back.....and be prepared to kiss camera goodby as a precaution.....

4> if all goes well now load cheez or flatfoto driver ... modify inf for your camera ID
personally I like to change camera ID to 29 and use flatfoto driver

.....I usually plug into a particular usb port to use LIBUSB
and plug into another port to use Cheez/Flatfoto [seems to work better this way]

good luck ..cause if you haavn't done your home work you will need it!!!!!!!

Please check vulcan pinch again - no one has reported a 6530! This seems odd that 6520s would jump from typeids 2B to 30 and then a new firmware jump would go back to typeid 2B. This may also indicate that during recycle they could be changing firmware. Please follow link in "Links" thread to binary weavers site and use the older method that works without updating firmware (note he is currently tweaking his procedure and you will need to be patient). When you have had some fun and success and want to speed up the process then try a firmware update - best bet is to read threads and use morcheeb'a pv2mod which allows a single block write. Until someone takes the time to summarize the best of the threads, this will be a major headache for new visitors. Note also that a better method awaits current work being done by sailpix, Forkboy, Drmn4ea and perhaps some others. Patience is a virtue.

USBVIEW only tells me that my device failed enumeration and it displays a bunch of zeros. Is there anyway to test the signals going through each individual cable to make sure that I wired them correctly? Is there any good way of knowing that the wiring is correct? Can I hardwire the cables to the board to remove any question about my parallel adapter not making a solid connection?

Swap your white and green wires. This problem drove me nuts for two days! I think the wire diagram is wrong here:
http://vickers.homedns.org/PV2mods.htm
I followed it to the "T" but finally figured out my wires were crossed after reading other USB info pages and testing my cable. I think this is the same problem jonnie has too.

BTW, no disrespect to Vickers or Maushammer, those pages offer awesome tutorials - I just got my cable wrong and everyone should double-check theirs if they run into the same problem.

I have made 3 cables using 6,8,9,10 as red, green, white, black that have all worked fine. I did have a problem with one of my USB ports having been incorrectly wired inside my home built PC. Until that was fixed other USB devices also failed on that port. I would find it very odd if other devices also work on a port where 8,9 as white, green works. Anyone that thinks they can do a better tutorial please post a link in "Links - 1 2 many 4 all" thread.

usually there are two thick wires and two thin wires the thick ones are red and black
respectfully pos 5 volts and ground
the others are green and white ive found green as data pos and white as data neg
i guess pos 5 voltsand ground could be found with a volt meter if your colors are not the same
the data wires can be swapped 50/50 chance
hope this helps
ps never had to use the sheild wire on any of my cams but it would go to ground to

I have used a radioshack multimeter to test continuity from palm pins to usb cable. Since my usb cable folloed standard color scheme, it didn't matter to me what pin on usb connector was a particular color; but I am sure google can tell you.
