These are the official FlatFoto 2 Megapixel drivers.

http://www.grizzlytorrents.com/download.php/273/FlatFoto%202MP%20Installation%20CD%20%28Drivers%20Only%29.torrent

I know there was just a post regarding this, and I realize you don't care for posts like these. These are only drivers my friends. I'm only looking to help out. Don't dare harass me about my distribution of these drivers. I have yet to see any documentation from RadioShack or SMaL in which they claim it is illegal to distribute their drivers.

If you want to help people, why force them to wait a week or so for them to have the drivers CD shipped to them. What I'm doing is by no means immoral. In fact, when you think about it, you're own actions could be considered illegal. You are posting information on how to obtain the firmware from the camera, yet, when others post this actual firmware, you flip out. How could a distribution such as this put your site in jeopardy if your own actions have not already done so? When you think about it, many pieces of hardware have free firmware downloads on the internet. Besides, what can people really do with a copy of any piece of firmware besides modify their own legally obtained corresponding piece of hardware?

I am only posting these because I do not wish others to suffer as they wait a week or so for their drivers to be sent to them. Please, if you still feel that this is wrong, so me documentation proclaiming that these actions are illegal.

If anyone actually enjoys the link, please let me know by posting in this thread. You get a horrible when you're met with harsh words and threats when you are only trying to aid others. Thank you.

Thanks a lot. Bought my first CVS red on Friday. Got blue pictures with che-ez driver. Couldn't find flatfoto driver anywhere. Then you post it. Now everything works like a charm.

It seems that my original link to the torrent is down now.

If the original does not work, try this one:

If anybody appreciates the fact that I made these drivers available to the public, then would you please seed them. As of now, nobody else is seeding, but 20-some people have downloaded a copy. Thanks.

If you open smaluslx.inf you will notice the following message "(c) Copyright 2004 SMaL Camera Technologies".
Unless it has been placed in the public domain, software is protected by copyright law. The owner of a copyright
holds exclusive right to the reproduction and distribution of his or her work. Therefore, it is illegal to duplicate
or distribute software or its documentation without the permission of the copyright owners.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Free speech allows an individual to document their experiences and share those
experiences with others. Firmware is a whole different animal. It's copyrighted software that programmers have spent
countless hours and money to develop.

You already have documentation in your possession. As aforementioned, open smaluslx.inf in notepad and read the copyright
statement. If you insist on distributing the driver, contact SMal Camera Technologies and ask them for explicit permission
to do so.

I can certainly see where you're coming from Binaryweaver. I understand the concern that including this type of software my hinder your work, and I do certainly appreciate what you've done. Thank you for not shouting at me and calmly explaining yourself.

I did as you suggested an looked at the smaluslx.inf file and saw the copyright. Interestingly enough though, the same header (with the exception of the copyright date) is found in the corresponding file included with the Che-ez! Foxz drivers. I'm guessing that either the Foxz drivers are a cheap rip of the FlatFoto drivers (and thus illegal) or that the copyright statement must refer to modification of the drivers since the Foxz drivers are freely distributed.

Unfortunately, I still feel that people have the right to redistribute these drivers since the Che-ez! Foxz drivers are essentially the same thing, just outdated. I don't believe that the programmers stand to lose any money since these drivers are virtually useless unless you have purchased the camera for which they were intended. And if you're using them for the Dakota Disposables, they never would have made a profit on these drivers in the first place. Surely the $2.50 that RadioShack charges for a replacement CD is either just for shipping or just for the hassle.

I'm sorry that you feel differently than I on this subject. Keep up the good work and, if any harm should come of this, I hope that it does not affect you or this site.

I have been trying to get the cd from RS to 3 weeks now! I keep getting letters from RS saying my Credit card was refused. First time I assumed they had my last name spelled wrong, 2nd and 3rd time they transposed the experation date ( 01/10 from 10/01 dumb asses). On the 4th try I watched the payment clear "great Its comming"! Well I got a letter yesterday saying the item might be shiped from another location! ( she said they had 100+ in stock go figure)
HAS ANYONE ORDERED A CD AND RECEIVED IT???

I think I understand WantToHelp, but I bet SMaL may still want to prosecute. They most certainly have given permission for Cheez to post the Foxz versions that work with their cameras (or if not they would not prosecute a economic partner). If "JustWant" can get permission from SMaL, I'll gladly provide a 3 finger salute. Until then what he has done violates our prior practice and wisdom of one of the greatest hackers of our time. Ignoring drivers, the actual camera firmware was only available to a single individual who painstakingly unsoldered flash chip and gradually disassembled code. I hope "Just" does not find my anger at his disrespect unjust.

Hehehe, "just" and unjust, very clever Dakotamod. No, I'm not offended by your view on the matter. In fact, I've decided to e-mail SMaL.

Upon going to their contact page, I noticed two possible addresses that could be e-mailed regarding the distribution of these drivers. http://www.smalcamera.com/contact.html I am thinking that e-mailing Scott Hunter would be the best move, but perhaps I should e-mail the General address instead. If anyone could help point me in the right direction, I'd be grateful.

I've also already written a sort of rough draft of my e-mail. I'm not sure of the best way to approach this endeavor, so if anyone has some suggestions, please let me know.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Hunter,

I own a SMaL digital camera and I am very pleased with its performance. I have been on some camera related forums recently, and I have learned that a great deal of FlatFoto digital camera owners have either misplaced or accidentally broken their driver CD. Many of them have visited the RadioShack website and downloaded the drivers only to find that there is no TWAIN functionality. In hopes of helping these people, one of which is a good friend of mine, I looked around on the internet only to find that the full drivers are no where to be found.

Fortunately I do own the actual FlatFoto drivers CD. My good friend, as well as many others on the internet, would be greatly appreciative if you would allow me to redistribute the drivers from the CD. I would not include any other piece of software from the CD, nor would I include the original autorun, just the drivers and the setup executable. I hope that this request does not inconvenience you in anyway. I would be very obliged if you are able to grant me permission to redistribute these camera drivers. Thank you.
-----------------------------------------------------------
(There would not be spaces between paragraphs and they would be indented. I can't do that in the forum.)

Thanks.

Hi i have a FTP server you can load it up to with 60GB of bandwidth per month. if you have the flatfoto 2 twain drivers i'd be more than happy to distribute until smaL decides im doing wrong. please e-mail me at jk71@tmo.blackberry.net if you can provide a copy. i have 4 servers so i can actually provide 240 GB bandwidth and it will take time for them to have me take em off all 4 because they are under different names. but if you have the file and will give it to me for me to put it on the ftp server please e-mail me again at jk71@tmo.blackberry.net

I used these for my neighbor who had a later version, thx.
ALso since some people are touting the whole copyright deal,
Whats worse.
Illegal use of a patent application to design a specific application that is GPL'd (thus perhaps violating the GPL eg their own copyright)?
eg the raw decoder
or copying a device driver that already has permission to use these ideas?
Furthermore it says copyright bla bla bla...
copyright doesnt mean we cant copy it.
unless it says no redistrubution, i say its ok. Smal would have to have some redistrobution agreements to allow their driver to ship with other vendors, and if there was anything, it would be in the install.
Also nowhere on the camera does it say that we cannot reverse engineer, modify, or do anything else we want to it.
If your so worried about everything, just chill out and notice that its your opinion. You never said you were a copyright or patent lawyer.
