I bought this little toy at walmart for 28 bucks (cdn), its not a bad camera for the price

It comes with a Usb-A to Usb-Mini-B Cable, Battries are in there as well :)

The only downside seems to be that it does not use flash but just sdram (8mb)

It will also function as a usb web cam

Hey Alfk,

I couldn't find the model 3350 anywhere on the Vivitar site. Is it the 3340 by chance?

http://www.vivitar.com/Products/DigCams/1mpdsc.html#v3340

The specs seem the same. Was it as special sell or regular price?

Max

Nope not a 3340

There is a picture of the package at the place that designed it http://www.gatewayarts.com/News/index.cfm?page=news_home&ID=42

OK,

Well I could find it here in Lexington but a friend mentioned the $30 digital camera. It looks alot like my
Agfa Ephoto Smile. Except the Agfa had a flash. Lack of a flash really kills it for me. Thanks for replying
though.

This isn't a defect. As stated in the manual, this is just one of this little cameras quirks.

I am not it's biggest fan. If fact, I would really like to do horrible things to it with a kitchen knife, but won't because I am too fond of my kitchen knives.

I bought it as a replacement for my 3 year old Intel pocket cam (also a 640x480 no flash camera). I thought it would be smaller (true pocket sized instead of "stuff it in there real hard and walk funny" packet sized) and (since it was newer) take as good, if not slightly better, pictures. Yeah, it was $20, but I wasn't expecting very much. Pretty much all I wanted was a a camera that, when used in full daylight, would produce small pictures of webcam quality. Basically, something I could keep in my glove compartment so I would be prepared when faced with a 88 Escort with a wing spoiler or watertower shaped like a giant peach.

What I got was a camera that r-e-f-u-s-e-s to take pictures in medium light and, when confronted with the most beautiful just before sunset, double rainbow, puffy white clouds scene I have ever seen in my life, gave me pictures that you can sorta, kinda tell are of the sky.

Blah.

I work in a Real Estate office, and one of the agents received this camera as a gift. She brought it to the office yesterday to install on her computer here, and we ran into the same problem of receiving the "Camera connection error" on a computer running Windows 98. Here is what I did and what I surmise to be the problem, for what it is worth.

I decided to test the USB cord by taking it to another computer in the office. On this Windows 98 computer, the software installed perfectly with no problem whatsoever. Then, I also installed the camera software on another Windows 98 computer in the office. This time I received a message from Windows that the kernel32.dll file was written in Traditional Chinese and did I want to retain it? I said "No," and apparently that file or the reference to the file was replaced with the system's version of the kernel32.dll file, which of course, would be in English. Then the software installed and ran perfectly. I would say that this programming was probably originally done in Chinese (an inexpensive camera sold through Wal-Mart for $20), and they forgot to translate this critical Input/Output .dll file. Why it is so capricious, I suppose, depends on how the programmer wrote the code and how it goes about calling the .dll file.

So, the non-technical solution for us was to use the camera on a computer on which the installation was successful. I came across this discussion and one more on the internet as I searched for a solution to the problem. In the other BBS discussion, one person had been told by Vivitar that is was a Windows98 thing that they could do nothing about. So what I have surmised above would fit within what that customer was told. The program needs a patch, but Vivitar may not be interested in solving the problem if the inexpensive camera works for most people.

Hope this helps.

I bought this little camera at Walmart for $19.97 and took the first one back. Everything was blurry through the viewfinder. If someone was standing 4 feet from me and I tried taking their pic, I would not have been able to tell if they were even smiling or not...or eyes closed or anything. So took it back, got another, the clarity looking through the view finder is the same. Does everyone else have this problem?

I also just took my first pics tonight. Thought ok, so I can't see what I'm taking very well, maybe they will come out ok when downloaded to the computer. So I'm thinking ebay kinda pics, so I grab a couple pairs of jeans and throw them on the floor. Took one pic of all three pairs overlapping each other, then a pic per single pair. Now picture the jeans, folded at the knees, overlapping each other to where the spread is no wider than two feet. WHen I download the pic, I only get like the bottom right hand corner of what appeared in my viewfinder, so I didn't even capture the top of the bluejeans, only a little bit of the middle pair and absolutely nothing of the pair on the left.

Then I take one pair, lay it, still folded at the knees longways, like I'm gonna take a landscape picture, and seeing the pair perfectly, with space left over on each side, in the viewfinder, my downloaded pic only shows about 1/4 of what I thought I took...again bottom right 1/4 of the pic.

Anyone else have the same clarity problem with the viewfinder? And when lining up stuff IN the viewfinder?

I had no problems installing, nor downloading. Made sure I installed the driver first, then rebooted the machine, plugged the camera in, open the software and downloaded easily.

I also have vivicam 3350 I fixed the low light problem by using the lens from a dead x10 color cam and set the focus distance about 17 inches to use for taking ebay pictures. Pictures taken outside before dusk look overbright.
