DirecTv's Tivo is watered down compared to standard Tivo, what do I need to do to get started on it? I want to take a fresh HD and start from scratch and keep the orginal unmodified so that in the unlikly case that DTV does upgrade their OS, I can just swap the orginal back in and still have my TV.
I want to capture the recorded stuff to my PC instead of just using the RCA video out, I have a really good capture device but still a lot get's lost in the transfer from digital to analog and back to digital.
On a side note, Tivo ROCKS!! I will never watch regular TV again!!!

I going to take it easy at first, start out with just upgrading the drive to a larger one then adding web access and network function to it & perhaps later get video extraction working. I am proud to admit that finally I have found a good reason to jump into Linux more!! I shocked one of my coworkers today just by mentioning the "once I get a bash promt" in relationship to getting into the Tivo system (I have been slightly biased again Linux at work...
