Noob, maybe youre interested in hosting an ftp site where we can store some of these image files?? For some reason my site doesnt seem to be accessible to all (not sure why yet)...until I get it worked out, anyone willing to donate the time and bandwidth to host theses images?

Im going to make the esmith image tomorrow...

I don't understand why so many people want to Ghost their Gallant's HD before they start messing around. The CD that comes with the thing lets you NetBoot it from your Windows machine and completely restore it to a factory setup.

I believe some people did not receive the manual and cdrom. So this method of rescuing is not available to them. So they want an image to restore if/when they need it in the future.

Sounds reasonable to me.

mrastudent: that cd requires the server to be set to setup boot mode, which is supposed to allow the windows program to connect to it. My question is, what if that setup boot mode is setup with the gallant's software? If thats the case, then if you reformat the drive, you would lose the ability to put the comp into setup boot mode, and gallant's backup restore cd is basically worthless.

The purpose of the remote booting and restoration from CD is to let you fix your appliance when you've had a total HD failure. If you were to put it a new HDD it would still work.

I give Gallant two thumbs up for doing this. They could have just left you high and dry with a hosed HD if they wanted to.

I take my comment back, I just tested it, and I guess the netboot must be programmed into the bios or something. Very nifty.

and as everyone else has said, not everyone has the cd, some bought refurb's.

Did anyone try the netboot? I tried it the other day and couldn't get it to boot completely. I ended up pulling out the hard drive and sticking other one in instead of backing it up.

I tried the netboot, and I considered it to work once the dialogue on my computer showed up asking if i really wanted to restore the server.

i can host part of an image, but not all of it at once, i have the bandwidth, but i don't have the space on my web server account.

Perhaps an iso of the cd would be more useful. Not sure about the legality and still if you didn't get the cd in your box..you won't have a s/n.

Works fine for me in active mode. Not in passive. I'm linking to a really good article that demystifies the whole Active/Passive FTP thing and explains what situations call for each mode. http://www.slacksite.com/other/ftp.html
