Overclocking the 633Mhz Gallantweb

THe motherboard has dip switches to change the buss speed and overclock to 950Mhz, but they seem to have no effect. I have only been verifying the speed by the BIOS post screen. Has anyone overclocked theirs yet? IF so, what were your dip switch combinations. Thanks!

Austin

I've tried that too, and it doesn't work. WCPUID reports 633MHz no matter what jumper setting I try. I know there are pin tricks for voltage, but I don't think there are any for FSB, so we may be stuck with buying a new CPU :/

I know the Celeron 633 will do 950 no problem, I'm running one right now at home, default voltage.

well damn! I guess I will stick in a better chip when the opporotunity arrises. I just dont want to be throwing too much money into this little guy. I am already adding more ram and a vid card with tv out. Any reccomendations on a budget vid card that can play the newest games at 640x480 and is pci with tv out?

Also, what are your memory configs? I am running win xp, so I will need more. Anyone know the sweet spot for xp? I am guessing 256.

The built in video will be your best bet. It's AGP 2X with 32MB RAM. You'll have a hard time beating that with a PCI card.

Has anyone installed the newer firmware? Maybe the overclocking will work then! I need to burn a CD to flash mine which is a PITA, but I'll get around to it some time tonight.

actually, the vid card has only 4MB of memory and is not capable of 32bit color.

Windows also says it has 32MB RAM.

Yeah the 24bit color isn't the best, but it's good enough.

I do not have my Cel900 unit here @ work, but when I get home tonight I will post details of the video card on that unit.

I cannot imagine this company would put 64mb SYSTEM RAM in the box and then include a 32mb VIDEO CARD, that's half the system ram, and its not particularly cheap. Especially considering they never really intended anyone to use this machine as a workstation, or run Windows or XWindows on the box.

It would seem to me that orbillius is correct.

My 633 says it has 32MB Video RAM, but it now has 320MB System RAM so maybe the video uses a fraction of the system RAM.
