| I was able to connect the phone on the Tiger.Dot,and get it to work.Since I didnt have the drivers.I looked at the modem board very carefully.I noticed on Kludgemeisters Dot.Bob wiring harness diagram that the two phone wires are the BK/BN wires on the left side brade. These goes into the box,and are the two wire brade that connects to the modem board. They plug into a connector marked phone,I think the red is positive,as it has that little triangle near the edge of the board.I decided since I didnt have the drivers,to soder two wires on the bottom of the modem board connectors, there are four connectors,so besure to get the right two. Most RJ-11 plugs have 4 contacts, but some have two,you need at least two to get any phone to work, positive and negitive, you can reverse this and it will still work, but you will reverse the polarity. You can see which two you need by looking at a RJ-11 plug and the handsets plug there clear, look for the red one postive, the two you use on the Dot are the middle two connectors. When you have the two wires carefully sodered on the back of the modem board under the modem phone connector,I taped them in place, and brought them to the top of the board,I then put the modem board back into the Dot.I then connected all the wire brade connectors.I then unplugged the phone pare from the modem, and plugged those two wires, one in each socket of the plug.I used tape to secure this.I then plugged the handset(cheeky phone) into the side of the Dot. and have phone dial tone. You can only use this while off line,as you are sharing the Dots. modem connection with the phone,If your on-line you will hear the swooshing isp sounds, but when you log off you will have dial tone, and the phone can be used. You have to keep in mind that the two buttons on top near the phone will not work,(Flash and Speaker Phone),but you can use the phone. Also when you get a call the Dot.has to be left pluged in,and it wont ring, instead that blue dimple shoulder rest acts as a signal light,it will flash when you have a call. Also the volume button(on top of the handset)doesnt seem to work, but the bottom two buttons(call waiting/flash) and (redial) do work.Another thing I noticed is the connector on the side of the Dot where the handset plugs into is smaller, its not an RJ-11,this was maybe done as a safety feature,so you cant plug a regular phone line into the side, only into the back modem port. The side connector is only for the phone. | |
