I just got in my Spanish version of the Intel Dot Station. I plugged it in and it works great. It asks for a Numero de registro and Codigo personal. Is there any way to bypass this? Also, what is the max memory and cpu I can put into this machine? What kind of memory do I need? Please help.

John

P.S. This thing was sealed and never opened but had no documentation at all.

No one on this site has yet to get past the login screen. You cannot get into the BIOS to change the operating system, flash the BIOS, or make any changes on the harddrive. Yet. You have just entered the Hackerzone. Some people are in the process of finding a way to reflash the BIOS, it will just take some time. Just keep coming back.

Which Dot.Station do you have? If you have the phone on the top and no card reader, it is a dot.bob; if you don't have the phone and have a card reader, it is a dot.bob2.

check the message thread Compatible memory. I have successfully installed the 256 MB stick of Low Density (16 chips, 8 per side) PC133 SDRAM I purchased from Z-Buy (found on Pricewatch.com). I have a Dot.Tiger from TigerDirect, and the BIOS is different from the Dot.Bob units, but the hardware is identical. I don't know that anyone's tried anything larger than 256. Since that's enough to run XP, it's more than enough for a browsing appliance. For any Windoze less than XP, 128 MB may be acceptable, and 128 MB is definitely enough for our good friend Linux of just about any flavor.

Just be certain that you purchase older-style, Low Density SDRAM, or the BIOS and motherboard won't likely detect it properly.

wvgeo:

jsmmd has gotten past the registration screen, by removing the drive, mounting it in another machine under Knoppix Linux, and editing the blueriver startup files. check out the message thread Linux OS.
