Card Reader
Information on the credit card like reader

I was wondering if anyone has done any research into the card reader on the right hand side of the dot? is their any explanation within the dot's help files? or has anyone who has a new OS on their dot seen anything relating to it within the OS (XP or linux)?

any help apperciated, model, brand, etc.

I've been wondering about the card reader as well. Whatever it is connected to on the mainboard, it doesn't appear to be a standard interface. The one serial port is connected to the modem board, the IR port is left free (and unconnected), and nothing else appears in either dmesg output, or Windows device manager.

To make matters worse, I can't find squat on google for an ITL8890-101 card reader. Even ITL8890 doesn't bring anything up. However, that isn't terribly surprising, as this is obviously a custom PCB - what with the speaker pass-through and all. Even the original OS is of no help. The card reader app opens a device in /dev - so we would need the device driver code to figure out what drives it on the mainboard.

Any ideas? It would be particularly cool if we could get this to work! :)

I'll dig around on the HD and see what I find. Remind me if I don't get back to you in a week, month, whatever.
