Identify Unit

Bought the unit from third party. How can I determine which unit it is? It has a telephone on top. If you remove the face cover, it has a cut-out for a CD-rom. In the rear there is a yellow rca plug, then another yellow plug, network and a green output plug.

I have pictures on the site of the units that I have. There should be a model number on the back of the unit. If people start listing out any differences between the units pictured on the site and what they have I'll be glad to make a model listing for everyone to reference.

Email me any info. you might have.

PS - Mine don't have any audio ports. I'm totally jealous!

Any way to determine if the unit is hackable without taking it apart?

What is the model number on the back? Also, what happens when you power it on?

If the "usual screen" is the intel proprietary OS then you probably can't do too much to the machine unless you swap motherboards or replace the bios.

I have the (engineering version NOT FOR SALE) as stated on the bottom of the unit mine hase everything in english but as you have the same proble as i do no access to the bios or even trying to boot to another drive.
If you remove the drive i notice one thing when turned on without a drive in it their is a version# that appears on the bottom left corner(0.7.4.1) also after a while about 1 minute it will go to a (1001)upper left corner with the courser blinging like as if it were waiting for a command. But i have not been able to get anywhere with it so far.
I have tried to boot to a cddrive(ide, usb) also a superdisk(ide, usb) even tried a win98 boot disk. I dont know what else to try now.
I have the machine working well and i mean everything works even the phone dialer controls i use a usb mouse works well too.
Seems that everything is ok with this unit and when i plug it into the network i can go on line with it as well and no problems.
So since i cant do anything yet i figured i would try the extra 950 celeron chip i had laying around and a 256meg unbuffered chip as well .
After installing them i really noticed a dramatic change in the preformance of it but even though the about info still says only 64 megs.
I dont know of any web sites that i could possibility go to to test it to see how fast its really running. If anyone know of such a site please email me the link or post the link here. I would really like to get another os on this machine.
I would like to get Lindows 3.0 on it since i am a member of the lindows forum and insider groups so please send me the links or more info on how to crack the bios.

Where did you get these units from? Interesting config.

The only way to crack the bios right now is to ship the motherboard away to have the bios re-programmed. See the thread: Bios Chip Replacement for soldered chip

Okay, I stumbled across a gem. I won an auction, from a guy just about 2 hours from me. Got a Dot Station for $100...shipped. Auction said it was for grandma, but doesn't want to use it...just wants to use her WebTV instead. lol

Anyways, upon receiving it (25 min. ago!), and plugging it in (it is a Spanish version, btw, with these "PC" stickers on the keyboard, monitor, etc...seems to be over the 'Intel' logos)...after powering it up...it immediately boots into a full-blown Linux (KDE) distrubition...right to the desktop. I had instant access to the internet, etc...fully open. The phyical specs are untampered (64MB, 300mhz, etc.)

Anyways, just thought I'd share this...I have some investigating to do on it. It is fully open...less time I'll have to deal with messing with that. I am in Dot heaven at the moment.
