jvega has posted pictures on the new Spanish forum of a scheme by Angel Diaz to add the escape key, F1-F10 and the right mouse button by using little momentary switches:

The wiring diagram alone is worth the price of admission, because it could also be used to rewire the stock function keyboard (after scraping off the original traces just outside the conductive pad areas...)

BTW has anyone found a "stock" USB keyboard that fits in reasonably with the design of the Dot?

I wonder if laptopbios would do that for a fee. Man, that's fun looking.

This keyboard isn't usb, but looks close. Probally doesn't match shade might be wrong.

I'm just going with a standard USB, maybe wireless, internet keyboard. :)

I gave up on modifying the Dot keyboard and bought a Logitech Internet Navigator "multimedia" USB keyboard ($19) and Logitech optical USB mouse ($10) from PCIMicro here in California.

Both work great, but I had a little trouble getting the OS (Win98SE) to install their drivers. I plugged both in, and the Install New Hardware dialog froze since neither keyboard nor mouse was working at the time (though the keyboard had worked fine to get into the BIOS).

It turned out that Windows was installing the mouse first, which I discovered by plugging in the Dot keyboard and the Logitech mouse. The Dot keyboard worked fine to navigate through the mouse installation, then I replaced it with the Logitech keyboard, which installed fine since I could now use the mouse to wade through the installation dialogs.

I *might* give XP a try when I can install it on my own terms--no IE, Outlook Express, Automatic Updates, Script Host, Messenger, etc. In other words, when http://www.litepc.com/xplite.html is out of beta. Until then, I'm staying with the reliable and user-controllable Win98SE Lite. (Plus, I am still running the DOS version of my favorite CAD program and don't want to spend the $$$ yet to get the Windows version...)
