Wiring harness

For anyone who cares I've uploaded the start to the wiring harness diagram (11x17 PDF) I've been working on. So far, I've only traced the wires inside the chassis. As I trace the "external" wires I'll add descriptions of which pins do what.

I'll welcome any suggestions or additions--especially if you know the functions of some pins already I'll add them sooner.

Good job, thanks "Kludgemeister". Well my only 5 cents is what you problably know, the Front Panel connector (J8C1).

J8C1-2&4 must go to "You have a message"-LED, J8C1-6&8 to the power switch, but J8C1-5&7 wired have been a surprise, because Dot.stations don't have a "Reset button".

i think there's a little mistake at the right-top corner, "J8C1 - USB FP" should be "J7A1 - USB FP", and the indication "(on modem)" is missing on some connectors. i'll check them when i get my mobo back.

Again, thanks for the job.

Aw, shucks, thank you for the kind word, jsmmd.

I just uploaded a slightly edited version with a little more room for adding pin functions next to the plugs.

luismi,

Thank you for your sharp eye and the coorections! It will take me a few minutes to incorporate them.

I have not had the Dot back together since I first disassembled it 3+/- months ago. The monitor and housing have been sitting in the box, and I've been using an external power supply and 9" mono VGA monitor since then. So I'm actually not familiar with the connections to the outer case yet.

OK, I've uploaded Rev.0.1 of the schematic, with luismi's corrections and additions, and a correction to J8C1 (the reset button isn't implemented--just the ground line, but I had the two wires next to that off by one position.) This schematic will definitely be a "work in progress"!

0.2 is up. I'm not going to rename the file, so the link above will stay good.

0.3 is up. I invite anyone with your Dot disassembled to review and critique! It's a little surprising to me to see how many "internal" wires are not connected to the "outside." I guess that's part of the flexible design of this machine--allowing for variations without redoing too much of the hardware.

0.4 is up. I'm stopping for now, because my first aim at tracing the loudspeaker lines is accomplished. (and I'm getting cross-eyed!) If someone else wants to trace the front-panel bundle before I get back to it, fine.
