DVD Playback benchmark.....

I'm currently using a 1.1Ghz PIII Celeron w/ 256Mb of RAM running @ 1024*768*24bit color in Windows XP. My processor resources is 100% maxed out during DVD (Matrix) playback. I'm using PowerDVD 5 as the software DVD player (with hardware acceleration and DMA enabled).

DVD playback is ok but is it normal to maxed out the resources @ 100% during DVD playback? I haven't tried DivX yet....

I would appreciate it if you guys can share your DVD playback experience. Thanks in advance.

Is this with the stock board, or a modded D810EMO?

Also, what model DVD player are you using?

I personally have no experiance with DVD playback, but I do have a PCI Sigma Designs MPEG decoder card that I was thinking might make playback better.

Stock Mobo.

DVD is Toshiba's SD-C2612 (according to spec, it is a 8X DVDROM)

And I don't have a MPEG decoder card...i wish I do though..cuz' I'm sure that will solve the problem. :)

PeteC,

What's your CPU resources during DVD playback? (I assume you don't have a MPEG decoder card, correct me if I'm wrong...)

Thanks in advance.

PeteC,

Did you mean that you have a PIII 850 Coppermine computer (not the dot station)? Coppermine is a SLotA 133Mhz FSB CPU and DOT station is a socket based mobo.....(100Mhz max)

I used an "old" 850Mhz 100FSB 370 FC with a Lin Lin adaptor. It wouldn't post without it in the original dot. I am not using any additional boards in the I.Dot except for FM/TV/Capture PCI card.

Read my post here:

http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=idot&Post=61&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=''

I haven't played with it in a while as I have been playing with the Kiosk touch screen. I still have yet to finish it. Just another project.

I haven't tried a Celeron. I am guessing yours worked with no adapter? Have you tried something faster yet? (IE Celeron 1200/1400?)

Will check benchmark and post. (I.dots been moved to back of project room).

This is what I'm currently using for CPU (w/ a Lin-Lin adapter)

http://www.compgeeks.com/details.asp?invtid=CEL1000175-N

Intel Celeron 1.0GHz Socket 370 FC-PGA CPU

General Features:
Intel Celeron 1000Mhz (1.0GHz)
128KB L2 cache
1.75V core
FCPGA/"Flip Chip"
100MHz Bus Speed

I think the difference here is that your CPU has 256KB L2 cache and mine is only 128KB. I don't know why I didn't look at that closely when I bought mine....but do u honestly think that 128KB of L2 cache will make a difference on DVD playback?

Updating Norton Antivirus 2-100% CPU utilization
Updating MS 16-100% CPU utilization
Playing a DVD using WinDVD I am seeing a CPU utilization of 49-55%.
Playing a DIVX video (across LAN 100M full duplex) I am seeing a utilization of 30-45%
Playing a MPG1 file: 20-34%
TV Tuner Video from combo TV/Tuner/Capture/FM card : 20-40%
