HELP! I purchased a spanish version of the intel.dot before Christmas last year. I intended to reformat it and give to my daughter. I was going to put either 98SE or XP on it, so she could start to learn the in's/out's and have net/email access...\\best laid plans...\\
Anyway, here we are in April, and guess what, still no operational dot in my house. Abrief history and then a few ???'s
I sent the mobo off to one of the guys I found on the board here to have the BIOS chip replaced with an unlocked, and usable version. When I got the mobo back, all was well. I loaded XP on the dot, and was a happy camper. I had done the load with the dot filleted on the table like fish (piggy backed a PS, hooked up an external monitor, put in a CDROM midstream in the IDE cable w/ the HDD). My wife hated what I did to the kitchen to get this working. Anyway, all is loaded and the world is great...I shut the dot down, and then remember that there was one more program I needed to load, so I tried to turn it back on and...zip, zero, zilch, nada, nothing, I had a great big paperweight. I checked the PS, even installed a new one, used another monitor, but nothing. The processor fan wouldn't even turn on. I got no system beeps, nothing...I surmised that I had somehow cooked the mobo. I hunted around on the net and found a guy that sold the mobo/proc bundle for about $35, so I ordered one. I just took it out of the static bag and hooked it up to a PS and a external monitor, and the processor fan came on, the HDD spun up, but no system beeps, and no video (the monitor has the dreaded "no signal" indicator). I tried hooking it up to the dot monitor and (this is odd), when I hook it up to the monitor, nothing works, but I can unplug the brown connector from the monitor, and the monitor's fan comes on. I thought that due to the age of the system, and possible a long shelf-stay for the new mobo that the bios battery may be dead. I bought a new one and put it in, but again, no dice. I also tried all the jumper settings on the BIOS on the mobo, thinking maybe that would help, but...
So, you've read this far (and thank you for that). Does anyone have any ideas? I'm kinda out of magic dust for this one. I've replace the PS, replaced the mobo/proc, I'm kinda out of stuff I can point my finger at.
Is there any chance that this new non-Intel-booby-trapped mobo could also need a new BIOS install? I would think that even if this was the case that I should get some sort of beep or lifesign from the board anyway?
