DSS emulation success

With a few modifications, the NT-150 is a natural for DSS emulation. For those interested, here's what needed to be done:

CMOS battery mod:
Smartcard mod (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stbhackers/files/SmartcardMod.zip)
Populate U7 (MAX211?) or add ISA serial port card (I opted for the latter)
Boot from IDE device (I used IDE->CompactFlash adapter and 2M CF card)
Use shareware app to remap IRQ12 to IRQ3 (COM1 uses IRQ12; SLE44 didn't like this.)
Enable AUX fifos in SLE44 (/fe and /fa)

After setting mine up for emu noticed its runs out of steam after
a few minutes. Know this might be related to the increase over the last few days in the speed/number packets being transmitted. Works well with the P-133 that I am using though. What is the "Enable AUX fifos in SLE44 (/fe and /fa)" function? Does you box continue to work with this function off? Is yours still working today? Are you cooling this inside of the NT-150? I would rather use the Nt-150 than a pc.

Without FIFOs enabled in SLE44, my box craps out after a few minutes also. Add the /fe and /fa switches to your command line; it should help out.

With the updated datastream, the NT-150 only works reliably for 4-5 hours on my Sony A-50 receiver before I have to reboot. However, it still works flawlessly on a Sony B-2 and RCA 420. The Websurfer works 100% on all receivers.

I have made no cooling modifications to the NT-150; it runs a little warmer than optimal, but still reasonable. I placed it on top of my other home theater components and it runs cooler as a result.

Great I was ready to toss it out or find something else to do with it. (NT-150)...have you
clocked yours up with the Pin up fix to overclock it to 160Mhz? I have the old first gen
Sony IRD's so I should not have any problems on that end. Thanks again

I have a Sony B-2 clocked up the speed on the NT-150 and it still chokes. It's variable running sometimes 8 hrs..sometimes one. I am still using V2.3..are u using V3.0?

My NI-150 is running at stock speed. Maybe it's the serial port card you're using? I used a SIIG "High-speed, high-irq" ISA card with 16550 UARTs. I am currently using SLE44 3.0.

Ran some tests last week:

Sony A50 (using NT150's card reader): unusable.
RCA 420 (using NT150's card reader): OK, some glitches but has run for 3+ weeks
Sony B1 (using NT150's card reader): Perfect.
Sony B2 (using NT150's card reader): Perfect.
RCA 302 (using external unlooper): Perfect.

Box is on-loan to a friend, will test on the A-50 with an external programmer or unlooper shortly and see how it goes.

Hey Pete and Perplexer:

I don't know about you guys, but I have had 5 of these boxes go way out of spec on the 12 Volt Rail, it seems the heat being put out by the aluminium heatsink (NOT BLACK)on the power supply itself is cooking the 12 volt regulation. I put 4 new power supplies too 4 of these boxes and added 50mm fans directly above the thin heatsink and added a fan to the CPU's of these boxes as well, so far things are looking good. I also put 60mm Fan grills in the top above the fans. The voltage hasn't strayed and they seem to stay up longer. I am going to try the CPU overclocking mod also to see if I can get them as stable as my Iopener is, it never fails (IVAC). As for the smartcard mod, if you just lift pins 5 & 6 of the LS05 off of the motherboard and add a jumper on the motherboard side you don't need to cut any traces. These things are great for emu, I hope they work out well.

I updated to version 3.0. Running well on B-2. 48 Hrs no freezes & not running out of steam. Modified a slot fan with mounting brackets from modem. Connected 2.5 HD to cover using existing vent holes. Kind of loud but keeping cool so far. With boot up so quick might as well power down between uses.

I am getting one of these units from ebay in a few days and I was wondering since that hashing happens frequently with the satellite how do you keep updating the files of sle on an easy basis? I was wondering if there is an easy way of getting the files over to the box with out having to take it apart all the time when I need to update the files.
If anyone has any suggestions please email me at kilthro@email.com
