Anyone else having trouble installing win9x on the Scovery?. I have tried to install from a cd and from a hard drive but it seems like the Scovery just gets tired and dies. It takes forever and just wont finish an install. I have a K6-2 450 on the way, will that help? Suggestions?

OK,from the try something else school of computing...............I booted from the cd and it seems to be going well.

I wish there were more people messing with the Scovery,it seems a pretty decent little machine for the bucks. I wish there were more posts in here.

Is Thinknik or something else better?

win9x will choke on the install on an amd processor if you forgot to change the core voltage to the correct level. please remember that the winchip is a 3.3 v core and the amd 450 is a 2.2 v core. installing the amd is more than changing the bus speed and the multiplier. you can sorta run the amd chip at 3.3 v, but it isn't real happy about it. the core jumpers are the row of pins near the cpu to the inside. refer to the cd that they sent you if this doesn't make sense. the default 3.3 v setting is with the jumper on the last set of pins. the 2.2 v setting is with the jumper on the other end one set of pins in.

if you have set the voltage correctly and still having trouble, i don't have any real suggestions except to try another cd. i have mine runing 98 with an amd 450 and a dvd drive and hardware decoder + audio board. makes a nice little dvd player...

another thing to check is to make sure you don't have the cooling fan stalled/blocked.
there isn't a lot of room in there and its easy to do (from experience). if the chip is too hot it will sorta work sorta not...
