compgeeks DVD drive and card kit update

Upon a recommendation earlier in this thread, I ordered the DVD and inlay card kit from compgeeks.com and installed it. Works perfectly! the ct7160 inlay card works perfectly with the Rage IIc chipset. You need to put the card in the upper PCI slot, though, because it would otherwise bang into the CPU.

I'm thinking that this would make a great stand alone dvd player; however, it seems that the ct7160 only works with winblows. I did some digging on Linux support for it, but only found that people were still working on the driver. anybody know of an update?

Alternatively, the original Drx2 card (uses a VGA overlay instead of a frame buffer inlay) is supposed to work well with linux. anybody know of a cheap source of these cards???

How did you get the CompGeeks kit to work? I ordered the same kit and installed it in my Scovery and found that the connectors on the PC-DVD Decoder and the AMC connector were different sizes. The card and drive and all the drivers loaded fine I'm just wondering how you got around the cable issue. Can you explain? I have a Scovery 211 with a D1152 Mother board. The connector on the motherboard looks to have around 40 pins. The one on the Card has around 20. Do you have the same setup? How did you get around it.

Thanks in advance

I lined up pin-1 on the SCovery with pin 1 on the ribbon cable-inlay card. The rest of the pins are unused. I think that the AMC spec. states ~26 pins so I'm guessing the rest of the pins on the connector is actually another set of jumpers which are unused. If you want to watch DVD's on a TV, the cable doesn't need to be connected. Also, to get sound, you can get sound from the inlay card or connect the inlay card to your sound card as directed by the manual to get sound from your sound card. Seems to work well except I have a cheap sound card and get quite a bit of hiss.
