I have upgraded my Scovery to a K62-450. After 10 minutes or so I get the windows BSOD. I have a globalwin fop32 fan/cooler combination, but my Scovery seems to be over heating. Motherboard monitor doesn't work on this machine. Anyone have any experiences upgrading the processor on their Scovery?
Yeah.....K6-2 450 overclocked to 550 with a Golden Orb.........drilled extra holes in the side of the case and put in a 486 fan(which probably didnt help much). It might have been hotter than a bigger case with good airflow, but it runs fine.
Also getting BSOD due to over heating with a K6-2 450. Didn't feel like drilling holes in the case, So I ended up underclocking the chip to 300. It's an email- & word processing-only PC for my pop, so not really an issue. Could probably get away with 350 or 400 MHz.
If you are not using both of the pci slots, installing one of the "pci slot blowers" that you can get for about $10->$15 will (with a bit noise) bring the temp down in the case so you don't BSOD at 500 Mhz. The ventilation in the case is not meant to take the kind of hit that a disk drive/cdrom/fast processor throw off. Somethimes you can get away with it, sometimes you can't. Looks like you couldn't.
