Thanks for the site. You mean :
http://www.fsc-pc.de/cdrom/DESKVIEW/CURRENT/INSTALL/MODULES/PCDSETUP/Enu/D1152.pdf
from: http://www.fsc-pc.de/cdrom/DOCU/boards/system/info_eng.htm
:::WARNING:::
This is the spec of the new MB, 'D1152', as described in the Scovery 212 PDF from 03/2000. However, I also found an older PDF, describing the two models 211 and 212. Dated 1/1999, it talks about the 'V70LA' MB instead.
::\WARNING:::

Link to 1/1999 'V70LA' PDF from: http://www.siemens.de/pc/business/scovery/us/sc210.htm
Link to 03/2000 'D1152' PDF from: http://www.fujitsu-siemens.de/en/scovery/scovery210.html

So it seems there are 2 designs around, both based on Alladin5. I presume the ones @onsale are V70LA, since codeman talked about the 2nd internal serial port. Still waiting to receive mine to confirm...

Differences as presented in specs:
V70LA_________________D1152
1ext +1int serial_____1 serial
2ext +1int usb________2 usb
IDT 200 or AMD 300____AMD up to 450MHz
faster ATI RageIIc____slower ATI RageIIc
4 or 16 MB flash______16 MB flash
LpA (noise) < 31 dB___not given

Overall, mixed picture. Looks like the D1152 was a DOWNGRADE (cost-reduction anyway)! I guess both MBs can use a couple different CPUs, but maybe(?) with DIFFERENT jumper settings and/or Bios revisions.

ok all

I d/l that pdf file and put a amd k6-2 400 in and changed the jumpers and the scovery
dectected the k6-2 but only at 266Mhz.

and the jumper position on the d1152 are a little different than the V70LA which is these units are...

these may have a older bios that does not support the amd 400 could try the d1152 bios

Could it be that the K6-2 expects a 100 MHZ clock rate with 4X multiplier and the SCovery is a 66 MHZ? With the 4X multiplier,
you get 266 MHz. Could be ignorance in my part...I don't mess around too much with PC hardware.

Well that link first link is the correct one. The bios has been upgraded to v3.2. There may be a few minor changes but it still should be the same HW. The link is actually the CDROM they send with it. Just got mine and I am truly impressed. The only question I have is what is AMC? It is listed as on of the connectors. Also there is an unpopulated audio link connector.

I didn't open the disk, but I followed the first link to the D1152.pdf and I could
swear that the pins are numbered
wrong on JP4/JP5, because with my K6-2 450
from Fry's I got 350 MHz with the jumpers
at 1-2 1-2 as indicated on the PDF for 100MHz, but when I moved them to what's
indicated as 2-3 2-3 I got 450 MHz.

For JP8/JP9/JP10 I did 4.5x multiplier.
The CPU is marked 2.2v core 3.3v IO so
I changed JP3 to 9-10 and JP6 to 2-3.

The fan was originally plugged into the
board, but I couldn't get it off the CPU
so I bought a new fan with a heatsink
that clips on and it plugs into the power
supply.

I put in a CD Rom Burner (will have to
recompile the kernel according to the
article in Maximum Linux this month), and
a 13GB disk I got on sale at Fry's for $59
(they put it on sale while I was standing
there...) it was a tight fit and I moved
the Sandisk to the second IDE controller.
There appears to be no way to put in a
floppy drive without moving the sandisk.
I wonder if anyone's mounted it under
rather than over and has made a floppy
work?

I moved the Sandisk under using the same screw holes and installed a floppy disk. No sweat other than getting all the cables situated.

It's been a couple weeks since I messed with the SCovery. I remembered two of the speed jumpers didn't match the PDF ( can't remember which ones ). I also did mounted the Flashdisk underneath with no problems. It's running as a master 2 and a DVD is hooked up as a slave. I've got a 3.5G HD running as master 1. In case anyone's interesed, the AMC connector ( for ATI video )on the motherboard is compatible with the Creative Labs DVD decoder card selling for $24 at CompGeeks and elsewhere. CompGeeks has some pretty good prices on DVD drives ( system pulls ).

I'm happy with the SCovery except it seems to boot really slowly. Once booted to Win98, its fairly snappy and stable. Not only does the OS take a long time to boot, it seems to also take a long time to get to the OS ( from memory test to the system summary ). Anyone else have this problem?

It's the flash memory..
unplug the flash memory and your boot time should be faster..
At least it worked for me...

jefft,

Finally got to try your suggestion and removed the flashdisk. Boot up was much faster...Thanks.

My SCovery had a WinChip 2. I used it on my I-Opener and it runs much faster. I can see the motivation for getting the WinChip 2 for the I-Opener.

Seems like every time I look, the SCovery's individual components are worth more than the unit as a whole!

The heatsink was a little hard to get off. I finally gave up prying it and took a hacksaw to it. Gently cut into the heat sink. Move the CPU and not the saw. After a sufficiently deep cut as been made, get a pair of pliers and sqeeze inward. You will be pulling and pushing the heat sink away from the CPU simultaneously. The CPU just pops away from the heat sink. Do this only if you think that the CPU is worthless with the heatsink on.

It was late at night ( actually, really early in the morning ) and I might have missed something. The SCovery doesn't seem to recognize older hard driver. I couldn't find a way to set the drives mode. It would see the drive; but, it could not communicate with it. Any suggestions ( besides getting a new hard drive : ) ) ?

WannaBe,

Doesn't the Mod I, II, and III I-Opener use the same WIN2 Chip? I have a Mod III I-Opener and would like to use my old WIN2 chip from my Scovery when I get the new AMD-K62 500 I ordered. What does the Scovery WIN2 chip have that the I-opener doesn't.

AIA:

The chip on the SCovery was marked a WinChip 2. I haven't had time to run download a diagnostic program and verify the exact CPU identification. I've already removed the chip and installed it in my i-opener and don't want to take it apart to check the markings again. If you have a chance, could you verify the markings? It was very late at night and I could have been halucinating. : )...As mentioned by others in the I-Opener thread, The WinChip 2 was an improved WinChip. Improved FPU and Graphics support. Again, this is all second-hand information from the I-Opener thread. The original CPU in the I-Opener was a plain WinChip. The WinChip 2 was a direct CPU upgrade to the WinChip for the I-Openers. Since the WinChip 2 was discontinued and considered obsolete, there wasn't much demand for them. The were being bought for about $24. Then the i-opener came along and the prices shot up to about $65 ( that's if you could find one ).

Let me know what you find in your SCovery.
