Double-check before you give up on your existing DOC. If it is physically fine (no broken pins, not plugged in backwards), then it should work with a little coaxing. They are very rugged devices.

Once upon a time, I tried to add disk compression to the WebSurfer's 16M DOC. Bad idea. But with the DOC tools, I reformatted it, and it's still happily running (24/7 for the last year or so)

I successfully repaired my DOC with a few sections of the right gauge wire and careful soldering. I actually bent about 4 pins too far and they snapped off. using needle nosed pliers I held a piece of well fluxed wire to the pin location. Touched it with the soldering iron and some solder and all was well. It took a few minutes to search through my junk bin for the right size wire, but the soldering took about 2 minutes.

I then very, very carefully inserted the DOC back into the socket. It has been happily chugging away 24/7 running LRP for the last 16 months.
