I just bought a new laptop and I need to sell my old one. The only problem with it is the power adapter. It works fine, but the tip is kinda broken and only works if you have it in there just right. I don't think that will be a very good selling point. Without any help from compaq, I finally found a website selling generic power adapters for my laptop, but they are still over priced. It also had a picture showing the diameter of the power adapter tip...and then the ideas started to flow. All I need to do is replace the tip...duh! It says its 5.5mm OD and 2mm ID. The closest thing I could find at radio shack's website is a 5.5mm OD, 2.1mm ID. Anyone think this might work? Anyone know where I might be able to get one that is 5.5mm OD 2mm ID?

Did you check the power receptical too? I have to fix a Compaq 1200XL111 that has a Broken power receptical. I think someone tried to jam in a wrong (oversize) connector and obviously split the insulator on the receptical. What a chore that is going to be. Requires pulling just about everything to get the mainboard out.
I'll have plenty of time though to catch up on all my projects if we go out on strike in September! I'll consider it an "Advance" on my retirement! (I'm being a little selfish and actually hoping we do it! I want to play with all my toys ).
