I have a hacked ia-1 I'm going to sell. It has the laptop solder mod done, 1 gig seagate HDD, sandisk is removed, a power switch, bios socket installed but may need resoldered (see below), a extra socket for the bios, the compaq bios, the i-opener bios ver 5.4a, and a heatsink and fan. I have well over 300.00 dollars in this thing and I'm tired of messing with it, so I'm just trying to get some of my money back.
I soldered on the bios without the socket at first, then I wanted to flash my bios with a file that Jack (badflash) sent me to try and get the modem and cf reader to work. I needed to hot flash the bios to do this so I needed the socket. When I was removing the bios I pulled up three via's, not all the way it just took the pads, so I used some wire to fix it. This worked but I started trying the hot flash thing and I pulled the bios out then put the other one in and tried it with no luck, I got the same error "Chip Unknown". I tried this quite a few times and it still didn't work, so I put the bios back in and it booted up. Everything was fine then I powered down and the next day it wouldn't start back up.
I know this can be fixed very easily, if you can solder. I'm to jerky (smoke to much), anyways I would bet just about anything that it's just a loose wire or some solder came loose.
I know the hard drive works, because I've had windows 98 running on it with the ia-1. I'll include a copy of win98 too. Just so I don't get in trouble I'll sent you a certifiicate of authenticity for windows 98.
