Well, it worked! Thanks to all for all the great info.

Here's the details:
V4 Iop - box dated 5-11-00, rise cpu, bios gooed all over, no clipped pins or security torx
Drive - 2.5" seagate ST9816AG dolly'd with qnx image

I just followed the recipe at http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=verytech&Post=86&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=

The partitions looked funny (2%, - , 2%, 10%) but it worked! "nothing but net!"

No funny black screen problems, no cracking out the goo, just an easy flash and go....

Does anyone have the new password for ID: iopenerv4 Pswd: iopenerv4. I have tried
Freedrive several times using the above Id and Pswd with no luck. Boykster perhaps you can make the files available somewhere.

I have a v4b with no goo, i have a ancient 60mb dell drive i ripped off my 386 laptop, i am going to try that tonight

The image I used is on #########.com user: iopener pass: iopener It's in the "for IO v4..." folder.

V4NoGoo: I had the drive kicking around from another project...I originally got it off ebay for $10 bux or so. I don't know where you could find one, but compgeeks has a good selection of cheapish drives (don't know if they have any seagates, however).
