Please help...
I see scatteder messages, and then I do a search for "VGA pinout" and it comes up with scattered crap... still.

I found this:
http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=technical&Post=587

Does it work? please help me! I have looked everywhere!

When I find out, I want to create a site for newbies. to help them out instead of going back months and months....

Thanks!!

I haven't a clue why anyone would need a vga out on this thing but...the guy with the opener for sale on ebay (#373416575)..has one working ,with picts on ebay......he also answered an email question I asked him about his external IDE setup.

I asked him very politely for some pinouts, but no reply :(
Thanks anyways... :)

Works fine - just hook up the pins on the 10-pin motherboard VGA connector to the pins on a 15-pin VGA
connector. I was just trying to figure out what the three unknown pins were; they carry voltages and are
emphatically *not* grounds.

Parts required: 1 * 10-pin female 2mm-pitch IDC connector, a few inches of 2mm-pitch ribbon cable, 1 *
15-pin female high-density D-sub connector.

Pinouts were from around the original IO hack page:

Vga Port CN1
1 R
2 <<<<<< Something weird
3 G
4 <<<<<< Something weird
5 B
6 <<<<<< Something weird
7 H
8 GND
9 V
10 GND

for a 2mm pitch idc connector, you need 1mm pitch cable.

Wasn't there also a listing for the VESA values for at least 2 of the 3 unknowns you have there, in the same thread?

Aspi: If there was, I missed it. (I think there was mention of some of the VESA values, but I don't remember any linking of those values to actual pins on the IO connector. If I'm wrong, please enclue me. I'm still curious :)

There was one of the VESA voltages mentioned, pin 9 = 5v.

Does anyone know what kind of signal the serial data line gives out? Pins 12 & 15 on my rig gave me the same voltage reads.

I suspect I'll take the O-Scope to the IO later, but I'd like to have some idea of what I'm looking for.

Oh, almost forgot this.

Why aren't you guys grounding the RGB sets? Couldn't you use a common ground for this purpose?

Disregard the pin information, it looks like it was a known pin.

I wonder what they used the extra 5v at pin 6 for? There are still two data lines unknown, but could the 5v be one of them?

Pin 6 on CN1 does go to pin 9 on the VGA connector, which is listed on the VESA/DDC connector as +5v. Now to find out what pins 2 & 4 do.

UPSGuy:

FYI, I grounded my three RGB grounds to a common ground. There was a noticeable improvement in image quality.

Before grounding, I had noticeable "ghosting" (capacitative ripple) beside every vertical line.

After, I still had some ghosting, but it was far less visible.

Ground lines are your friend. If I had room in my case (and I don't, 'cuz I did something kinda stupid when I did my first VGA-out mod), I'd also consider a ferrite bead on either end of the VGA ribbon cable.
