Looking For Win98(SE) Sandisk Image
Win98

Hi,

I have been searching this BBS for the sites that carry the win98 or win98se sandisk image. Does anyone know where I can download either win98 win98se sandisk image so I can install it on my I-Opener? Or if you are running either win98 or win98se on your I-Opener sandisk and would like to dump the sandiks image for me, I certainly will appreciate it.

TIA.

As has already been covered, this would be illegal to do unless all the people downloading the image bought an extra license of win98 so they could legally possess the image. need I say that such an occurance is not likely? Also, what exactly do you mean by win98 sandisk image? do you mean an image containing DOS7 (that is, win98 version of DOS) Win98 as a GUI cannot fit on the sandisk as of yet (and likely never).

I'm running Win98SE on the Sandisk. It runs in 15.2 MB

I can't distribute it - I agree with previous post; but since it's up and running (I don't have a disk on my I-Opener) - I disagree with previous post.

I got a lot of help from 98lite and their crew. New embedded version is going to be great! I'll post more when I can.

well, since this topic surfaced... I spent yesterday blasting away my sandisk, np, but, I'm too stupid to figger out how to make it active, yes, I used Randish Partition Manager, nice program... wish it had a Big Button to press to make the dam thing active...

roper: by 'running' do you mean in GUI mode or in DOS mode? sure 98lite would be able to reduce it to an extremely small size, but still packing all the crap windows has in it into such a small size is pretty much a technical triumph, not a real-world one. There just is no room to put anything other than the extreme basics on the sandisk, no room for applications. I would like to see a running embedded 98 just because that would be quite interesting, so if you have anything showing how exactly you did it with 98lite (a page perhaps?) put up the link.

I'm running a beta of 98lite-embedded. So, we'll have to wait until Shane releases the final version. In any case, I'm running the full '98SE GUI complete with network support. I'm playing with moving some of the other creature-comforts (control panels) to either a compressed ramdisk or a network share. Once you get the gui up, there's nothing stopping you from doing this.

My current version has win98 + ide drivers + usb in 15.3 Mb

I'll post more when I've made some more progress.

I suppose Win98 on the sandisk still doesn't mean you're diskless i.e. you still need an HD for applications. I would like to use iopener as an Internet appliance but w/a different OS/App than the present qnx/proprietary Netpliance application, and do so without a spinning HD and accompanying fan/noise.

Someone else brought up trying WinCE but this idea was pretty badly trashed by others. My next trip is going to be to the QNX site to see if there is any sol'n there.

if you have usb network drivers, you can put your apps on a fileserver in a different room.. leaving you with a machine that boots reasonably fast and has full access to all of windows..

Thanks, Programmer! This sounds do-able to me, if there's enuf left of Windows to get the usb & networking to work. My next trip is to the 98lite web site methinks; I've been looking for an excuse to spend $25 there. I wonder how hard it will be to flash the sandisk. Or more accurately, "I wonder how hard it will be to find the post(s) on this board that will show me how to flash Win98lite onto the sandisk"!
