SW1 and SW2 settings for DIP switches??
SW1 and SW2 settings for DIP switches??

Hello everyone, I recently completed the mod to drop the cpu core voltage from 3.3V (V3) to 2.0 V to power a K63-333 AFK. During the mod I also installed dip switches across the SW1 and SW2 positions. I was wondering if anybody out there has the dip switch settings that corespond to the cpu clock and cpu multiplier settings that I think these two switches control. I have looked through the message board and searched for this information but all I can find is clock/multiplier settings that use the resistors and not the dipswitches, so does anybody know this by any chance?? Thanks in advance for any help.

It is there. But you're right. I had a heck of a time finding it too. The title of this thread should make it relatively easy in the future, so here they are:

SW1 - Multiplier

4 3 2 1   Results
0 0 0 0   3.5X
0 0 0 X   2.0X
0 0 X 0   3.0X
0 0 X X   2.5X
0 X 0 X   4.0X
0 X X X   4.5X

SW2 - Bus Speed

4 3 2 1   Result
0 0 0 0   60 MHz
0 0 0 X   66 MHz
0 0 X 0   70 MHz
0 0 X X   75 MHz
0 X 0 0   80 MHz
0 X 0 X   83 MHz
0 X X 0   95 MHz
0 X X X  100 MHz
X 0 0 0   75 MHz

That's all I could find. It should be enough for most.

Thanks so much for the info!! You saved me a lot of time trying to figure out the dip switches by myself, if I even could have that is :). Thanks again.

You know I want more power, I already have the AMD K6-300 installed...but I am having a hard time building up the nerve to start soldering. I need the SW1 mod or other to increase the multiplier.

Are there alternatives? Will the so called 'silver' pen (used for fixing trace cracks) do the trick? How about the 'solder-weld' sold at radio shack?

I solder frequently and on circuit boards, but nothing so tiny and delicate as this motherboard.

Any thoughts?

YouBecha:

I had never done SMT soldering before either so here's what I did. I got a magnifier/light at Fry's for $15 that uses a standard light bulb, instead of the $70 magnifier/light with the fluorescent bulb because I knew I wouldn't use it very often. I already had a soldering station, so I picked up a $35 Weller soldering iron with a very small tip, and the smallest diameter solder I could find.

Got everything set up and found a board I didn't care about any more to do some practice soldering. I have seen technicians use an iron on each end of SMT parts like resistors and capacitors to remove them quickly and easily, so I practiced that approach on the practice board. Use both irons to heat each end of the device at the same time, then pick up the device. It's a bit harder to put the device in place and heat up both ends to solder it in place, but you can do it. PRACTICE before you touch the I-Opener.

Good luck!

I use a weller wes-50 with a ETS .01mm needle tip and a magnafind glass of course - the smallest diameter solder, and the smallest pcb wire on a spool I can find (at radio shack) The weller is 99 bucks at fry's tip is 3.99 the magnafine glass you can find anywhere - a very steady hand. remember not to put too much heat to the components. touch and go. On the weller I used setting 6.0. seemed to do just fine.

I appreciate all the help and info for the SW1 and 2 settings ! Thanks guys.
