Questions about SoftFSB

I've read TONS of references to using SoftFSB on this board. I even found a link to it (or at least a BETA version) at

http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html

but I still have some questions.
1) Is this the version everybody's using, or is there an older, more "proven" version? (I've had some pretty bad experiences with BETA software and prefer to use "production" versions wherever possible).
2) The web page listed above also has about two dozen links for for downloading "SoftFSB Plug-ins". From their names they appear to be chip-specific files for systems with different clock ICs. Do I need any of these for using SoftFSB with my IO?
3) What about using it with other systems? If the chip-specific files are required, how do you tell which one works for a given system? Is there a utility to determine which clock IC a system has?

Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

Here's the first reference to SoftFSB I found.....it works. Follow the directions exactly....The BETA version works the same. No plug-ins are necessary. "70" is as high as I ever got to work. Higher than that locks up, just reboot. Works perfectly...... http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=technical&Post=1003&Idle=10&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=ckbone.96473837259180

Aybody out there know how to find out which clock chip a system i using (other than tear it all apart). I've seen some good details on how to use SoftFSB on an I-O, now I'd like to use it on a couple of other notebook systems I've got. Unfortunately the systems are too valuable (unlike a $150 I-O) to take too far apart for fear of damaging them.
