Let's Hack the Sony Playstation 2

Everyone, once the PS2 become available at reasonable rates, let's turn it into another super-i-station.

We have an enormous populus. This will affect millions of ps2 owners. from your 60 dad, to your 12 year old brothers.

Just imagine a country modifying their play station 2 so that it runs faster with more cpu, a fast video rendering, etc etc.

Our i-opener populus is a misquito to the one we can do with the Playstation 2.

Considering that the original exports of the PS2 were delayed by the Japanese govt. because they were considered to be munitions-grade technology, this could be lots o' fun.

Has Anyone done anything in this aspect?? With Sony marketing this as the ultimate home theatre system, (hence the DVD remote and speaker systems) Lets make it fully kick ass and be able to handle it. Upgraded CPU and video is a damn cool idea, but is anyone ready to risk their PS2? if i could i would, but I am a technofool.

Show us what you guys can do

Better idea...let's raise the bar a bit and hack the Dreamcast!

There's a bit of a fallout on the PS2,especially with the lame control software and cheezy performance of the DVD hardware. On the other hand, the Dreamcast seems to be getting more respect now that the PS2 is out (again - I dont' want to argue this stuff) and the native PC hardware spec should make it easier to hack it. Plus it's cheaper to get into, already Internet ready, and more readily available...seems like a natural to me!

The first options I'd suggest would be expanding the RAM, updating the drive to handle DVD or possibly create a high-speed connection to the net.

Umm... Has everyone given up on this idea of hacking the lovely consoles?? Right now I'm thinkin "I wish I could do this so SOMEONE would get the info out there, but damn, I can't, oh well."

WHY HASN'T ANYONE GOTTEN INTO THIS, is it too expensive for the end product?? (there are lots of expensive e-pliances being hacked though), is no one able to do it?? (umm, sure, i bet nooo oooone can do, yeah right)

PLease explain

I haven't gotten into PS2 for two reasons:
(1) They're hard to come by at the moment.
(2) Because of (1), I don't want to risk frying my one and only PS2 when I do finally get my hands on one.

why not hack older, CHEAPER systems, like the n64? plus the n64 has a video ram upgrade...hehehehe, know that expansion pack, that's basicly a 4 meg video card for the 64.
