I was digging thru my vast collection of dumpster dived electronic and computer parts when I came accross 2 types of 5 VDC fans.

(1) Is a subminiature "Pancake Fan" it's slightly less than an inch square and about .40" thick...
Made by Densitron corp. PN# OPF25A05E DC 5V .2A
It came out of a Notebook docking port was a power supply cooler....Fan is very clean looks unused.

(2) Looks exactly like the type of fan that came on some types of the old 486 Gold anodized heatsink CPU cooler.
It's made by Shicon engineering co. LTD and called ICFAN PN# 0410N-5V
This was salvaged from a External SCSI CD-Rom drive enclosure and also was a power supply cooler.
Both have leads attached with a 2 pin female socket just like the Tennmax only the Densitron is 3" long and the Shicon is same length as Tennmax.

Just thought I would share this info in case others have older parts laying aroung collecting dust or just want to see if there local electronic supply has these.

(some time back somebody posted they got a good deal on a quantity of submini fans...
Hmmm Q16 coolers.....)

Found one more type of small 5v fan D-divin' this morning. Came out of another External SCSI CD-Rom case power supply.
It's a
Nidec Beta V TA150DC
Model C34247-16
5VDC 0.08 Amp
This one is made in China and is about size of an old 486 fan

I'm just posting these fan part #'s in case someone is looking for an alternate for the Tenmax in the future.
I must say all these that I've found seem to be more sturdy compared to the tennmax but definately not as thin!
Cutting a hole in the i-Openers back cover and RF shield will be required..

Does anyone know of any reason why a 12VDC fan cannot run at 5VDC? It will run slower and move less air but old 486 CPU fans are abundant and run for less than $2 at local surplus stores. It may not be sufficient for CPU cooling but could be used to move air inside the case and lower the temperature of Q16.

P.S. I really struggled with my electric motors class.

Most of them do work @ 5v. Yes they do run slower and move less air but they will probrobly work fine.
Two pluses running slower is lot less noise and longer life span.
Only thing I can think bad is that it's possible that it will use more current? And working with a device that is already being stretched out (OC'd) slightly past it's limits, that MAY be a problem?

Allied has the sunon heatsink fan for $9. Search in the post for "aspguy sunon" and you'll get the part number.
