Welp many people have been asking me about these and yes i'm Making them for people $40+shipping on the serial port, not bad at all for the price of the parts UGH
and $30+3 for the audio out mod, premade.
The audio out is very simple, solder 4 wires and drill a hole in the case then screw the jack down tight into place.
The serial port hehe even easyer, brake out the old dremal cut a shape of the serial port and 2 holes for the screw's then just plug it onto the mother board and put the port into the hole and screw it inplace tight. any question's???

now to be a little more indepth....
A max235 serial port chip with a 10pin mini connector like the IDE one is pluged into the io mother board. On the other side of the max235 chip are wires leading to a serial port adapter. JUST cut a hole in the case or put it where ever you feel is best and and and plug it in. and you'v got a working serial port with ALL WORKING line's but no 12v supply. MOST all things should work. I'v yet to find any thing that doesnt work off the serial port.
Berinc@acadia.net drop me a line

TL082 dual op-amp audio hack's for the yamaha sound chip, $30+shipping just solder 4 wires hot glue them and drill a hole for the audio jack then screw the audio jack in TIGHTLY. 1,2,3..6 done perfict cd quality to any set of powerd speakres or sterio. but its not great for headphones, it works fine on them but if you put the vol much over half way you find that the sound on any set of headphones will start to decay, though to me half way vol using this mod is blasting my ears. Thats what other people have told me in the past???? oh well. I'v never had a complaint other wise, heh i gues if ya can't hear the music from 5 feet away comming from a set of head phones its not loud enuff, like that of any old walkman.

I'v been building these for people. though the audio one's take a lot more time to build

Some time i'm goignt o put up a web page with lots of pic's and info on my mod's

like serial, cpu, audio, cdrom just to name a few.

Oh yes many people have been addressing the VIDEO driver problem with win98 SE and the back light not shutting off. :) i'v got a simple problem fixer for you!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok this is realy tricky, go to the microsoft update util in windos by hitting the start button then windows updates. NOW once you'v gotten to the page you need to click on the PRODUCT UPDATES link which will bring you to some updates. you need only 2 updates, one is already checked for you the critical updates. Seccond one is now at the VERY BOTTEM of the page OH LOOK its your video card :) this cyberblade driver supports BOTH the shutting off of the backlight AND setting your system ram usage for your video card all in one and every thing works just nice :) I'd also suggest having dx8 installed but thats upto you. THOUGH i never install directx unless its the first time after FRESHLY installing winblows.

This is a REPOST from an other post so if you use the driver above MAKE SHURE you are installing it as a vergin (OR read the post's), meaning FRESHLY HAVE installed windows DONT LOAD ANY VIDEO drivers yet you dont need to. when you go to the microsoft web page they will find your chipset. but i suggest you look at this page

one of my last post's discribes the BEST way to use this driver and i'v had many people say they'v had NO problems, if you do have problems i'd bet almost any thing you fall under one of the problem sources in my post. :)
I do strongly reccomend using this vid driver. :) happy hunting
ANY ONE GET A DEER yet?? my bud just tagged one!! 10 pointer

If intrested in one of these please feel free to send me an email

berinc@acadia.net

Come on aspiguy I know you want them :) fully working serial port and great audio out thats 2 easy to hook up HEHEH.

oh ya aspiguy when you get some better cooling on your CPU tell me if you think its working any better?? cause i do think 70c or 158F cpu temp is rather excessive. It wouldnt suprise me at all if all your crashing problems went away with better cooling.

I have a few chips on hand but I was wondering if, say, I were to go looking for one of your cn12 connectors (the 10pin "ide like" connectors) at somewhere like fciconnect.com, what would I be looking for name wise? I have everything else to do this, but it would be nice to have a removable device (plus this would basically be my first time with any soldering type electronics activity, so there would be a certain level of F***-up buffering involved).

Thanks

There are a whole slew of different parts that are sim BUT not the same type of connector. as for FCI i couldnt get parts from them due to selling to retailers only. but soon as my parts come in i'd be happy to sell you one of the connectors. I'v got a friend who orders stuff for me seeing as how he's got all the proper licensing and stuff. As for part number wise from fci, i'm not shure i go thew a different company but sell's to retailers only as well. so the numbers are different on identifying parts.

If you'd like a pointer on identying the part, well thats easy: you need a 2mm x 2mm connector ribon cable style 10 pin female connector. There are 2 main type's of this connector strain reliefe and straight. the strain releaf one is the easy kind which you just crimp the cable in place. the straight connector you have to crimp little female metal connecterds to each wire then put them inside a plastic houseing to lock in place. the housing looks just like the reg IDE connector. but pins stick up from top straight.

As for the maxXXX chip that you have WHAT EVER YOU DO dont mess up the wires or you can totaly kill your max chip OR harm your serial port. I'v built about 30 max235 serial mods so far and screwd up one. heh i tell ya what that chip got REALY worm. after that she was all said and done i filed it under DFU died from user.
got to be carful with your serial device side pins also. some of those output POWER +5v.

Thanks, I was just going to do the whole "sample part" deal with fci... seems to work pretty well and if they have a problem with it they are free to contact me.

I don't really have to worry about device complexity or anything like that. I'm only going to hook up a palm pilot or a lowrance gps into this thing at any time.

Thanks again.
