Ok, in case you don't know what SNESKEY or DPadPro is I'll try to give a little background info.
These programs allow you to use your console controllers (NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, etc, etc) on your PC via the Parallel port. In most cases you have to cut the existing connector off of your controller, but if you can find an extension cable for that particular format you can butcher that cable rather than the pad itself (ie, you could still use it on the original console). I have build a NES, dual NES, and a couple SNES interfaces for myself and they work perfect on my main machine. This is the absolute greatest thing for console emulators... it's really cool to use a real Super Nintendo controller on Super Mario World.
BUT.... No matter what I do, I cannot get these pads to work on the I-Openers parallel port (or my Soyo LI-7000 on my TV for that matter).
Does the I-Opener have some bizzare pinout on the parallel port? Is it a voltage problem?
I'm completely at a loss here. Any help would be much appreciated.

I cannot find the official page for sneskey anymore (it was dos based with win9x frontends availible). But here is the link for Directpad pro (It's a real windows gamepad driver) www.ziplabel.com

Is the parallel port BIOS settings on the I-opener correct?
Something about ECPP or some such. Don't have my IO here,
but there is at least one BIOS setting for the parallel port.

yes, you do have to make shure You'v got your settings correct in the bios. I build dpadpro PSX controlers for people right along with the serial and audio mod's that I'v been making. But as for the dpadpro thing, it is simple. first of all you MUST have an external PSU for the controler where as the IO parallel port doesnt output enuff power at all. As for the bios settins, thats the easy part. You'v but to do this:
Under parallel port settins make shure that the mode is ecp/epp, DMA-3 irq7 thats about it for settings and an external PSU to the controler. and connect ALL GROUNDS even PSU ground to IO ground but KEEP psu +v line seperate. :) want an adapter i'll build ya one. though i still have yet to get the DAM POWER adapter correct for making the force feed back work correctly BUT i'v got some friends helpin me work on getting the powe correct. when i do :) woo hoo hoo perfict working psx gamepads on PC.

I make them run OFthe reg PC power supply with out flaw just no feed back unless you want to use a 9v bat. for now. ugh

here is what my bios settings are (Under integraded peripherials)

Onboard Parallel Port: 378/IRQ7
Onboard Parallel Mode: ECP/EPP
ECP Mode Use DMA : 3
Parallel Por EPP Type: EPP1.7

I'm trying to use a SNES adapter, and the scematics on the dpadpro site don't list any pins for voltages and ground for me to build an external adapter.

Any more info would be appreciated.

(mp3boombox, I take it you have succesfully used a dpadpro/sneskey adapter on the IO?)

I built a DirectPad cable from a PSX extension cord, and am using it with a WinAmp joystick control plug-in.

I'm using a standard digital Sony PSX pad, no need for an external PSU. The I-Opener parallel port settings are, as far as I remember, at their default settings. The I-Opener is in the car, so I am not able to check right now.

DirectPad Pro requires certain files from the standard joyport driver to work correctly. If you have not already done so, have Windows install gameport support:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add New Hardware -> Sound, Video, Game Controllers -> Microsoft -> Gameport Joystick.

Give that a try, then reconfigure the DirectPad driver.

I've already installed the Gameport driver.

Perplexer... you're using the PSX pad with the I-O's parallel port?

I've noticed problems with some parallel devices when having the port set for ECP+EPP or just ECP. Printers have refused to work and it has caused conflicts with second floppy drives (why? I don't know). Try setting it for SPP or EPP v1.9 instead of ECP+EPP.

There is no SPP setting. There is a Normal setting though.

Neither "Normal", nor EPP 1.9 worked.

I'm pretty sure I have tried every possible combination.
I'd really like it if someone with a Sneskey/Dpadpro device could check this out on their IO.

If you'v tryed every port setting possable, then that leads me to think of only 2 thinks hardware or software. First i'd go into your gameport setup in windows, and makeshure that you have the controler DEVICE type selected as snes controler. if you do not, THATS YOUR PROB. if you do then look at your hardware. you may have ####ed up somewhere. Not to alrme you or any thing but if you setup your hardware wrong by connecting the worng wires. you may have a chance of KISSING your parallel port good by. double check your software and hardware

No, the pad is wired right. It works in one of my other computers. The driver is also set to SNES.

Phorge: Yes, using a PSX pad (both Sony brand and a generic $3 pad I hacked apart) with the IO's parallel port. Straight cable built to DirectPad specs. Use it almost every day with no problems. V2 I-Opener. I'll check parallel port and DirectPad settings this evening and will let you know.

I'd appreciate it.

If you could check both the BIOS and Parallel port settings under device manager, it'd be great.

By the way, I'm running WinME... but I also tried Win98SE on the IO and the SNES pad didn't work then either.
