I don't believe WinblowsCE will work on x86 hardware.

First off, do you *have* WinCE on a CDROM? It's not usualy sold on a CD. I ask this because folks with Epods units are in great need of a complete copy of CE. The OS on the stock Epod is very edited. We'd LOVE a copy of the whole thing.

WinCE can run on an X86 platform on top of DOS. The MS site had a trial version of thier CE platform builder for $15. I've tried building the OS a couple times and all I got was a black screen on a desktop PC. The documentation and tool is not very well done. Haven't had time nor desire to dig into it.

You need a x86 hal for winCE. Normally they are made by the folks who made the machine. Normally they are custom made for the particuler machine but who knows. Yes i have read about x86 tablets running wince so I know it has been done.

But it would be much easier to crate/get a emmbedded linux distro.

I would like to see WinCE on the IO. I disagree on the Linux, the apps are not there and easy to use by the non-linux user.

On a side note, I talked to LitePC.com developer and they have an embedded version of windows for the IO but it costs $3000 (this pays for there development time, you know even though they developed it already the want their moneys worth) and requires an Embedded windows listens per use. Basically they will develop an embedded windows for any hardware platform for a fee of $3000. If there are enough out there that would pitch in to purchase it then I am willing. I was trying to talk them into selling it them selves but they think they would not make enough, plus they say they have to sell the platform listens.

Check it out at http://www.litepc.com/eos.html

If enough of us let them know we are interested in it then they my give in. Email info@itepc.com

Cheers

I'm game, if we could get enuff people.

it would only take 120 people to pitch in $25 for $3000

or 300 people at $10 a peice. GUYS lets look at some buying power we have here.

Go to microsofts website, click windows, then embedded and download yourself a copy of windows ce.net evaluation software.
this lets you develop embedded ce os's.
Have Fun
