Welp many people have been asking me about these and yes i'm Making them for people $40+shipping on the serial port, not bad at all for the price of the parts UGH
and $30+3 for the audio out mod, premade.
The audio out is very simple, solder 4 wires and drill a hole in the case then screw the jack down tight into place.
The serial port hehe even easyer, brake out the old dremal cut a shape of the serial port and 2 holes for the screw's then just plug it onto the mother board and put the port into the hole and screw it inplace tight. any question's???
now to be a little more indepth....
A max235 serial port chip with a 10pin mini connector like the IDE one is pluged into the io mother board. On the other side of the max235 chip are wires leading to a serial port adapter. JUST cut a hole in the case or put it where ever you feel is best and and and plug it in. and you'v got a working serial port with ALL WORKING line's but no 12v supply. MOST all things should work. I'v yet to find any thing that doesnt work off the serial port.
Berinc@acadia.net drop me a line

TL082 dual op-amp audio hack's for the yamaha sound chip, $30+shipping just solder 4 wires hot glue them and drill a hole for the audio jack then screw the audio jack in TIGHTLY. 1,2,3..6 done perfict cd quality to any set of powerd speakres or sterio. but its not great for headphones, it works fine on them but if you put the vol much over half way you find that the sound on any set of headphones will start to decay, though to me half way vol using this mod is blasting my ears. Thats what other people have told me in the past???? oh well. I'v never had a complaint other wise, heh i gues if ya can't hear the music from 5 feet away comming from a set of head phones its not loud enuff, like that of any old walkman.

I'v been building these for people. though the audio one's take a lot more time to build

Some time i'm goignt o put up a web page with lots of pic's and info on my mod's

like serial, cpu, audio, cdrom just to name a few.

Oh yes many people have been addressing the VIDEO driver problem with win98 SE and the back light not shutting off. :) i'v got a simple problem fixer for you!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok this is realy tricky, go to the microsoft update util in windos by hitting the start button then windows updates. NOW once you'v gotten to the page you need to click on the PRODUCT UPDATES link which will bring you to some updates. you need only 2 updates, one is already checked for you the critical updates. Seccond one is now at the VERY BOTTEM of the page OH LOOK its your video card :) this cyberblade driver supports BOTH the shutting off of the backlight AND setting your system ram usage for your video card all in one and every thing works just nice :) I'd also suggest having dx8 installed but thats upto you. THOUGH i never install directx unless its the first time after FRESHLY installing winblows.

This is a REPOST from an other post so if you use the driver above MAKE SHURE you are installing it as a vergin (OR read the post's), meaning FRESHLY HAVE installed windows DONT LOAD ANY VIDEO drivers yet you dont need to. when you go to the microsoft web page they will find your chipset. but i suggest you look at this page
http://www.linux-hacker.net/cgi-bin/UltraBoard/UltraBoard.pl?Action=ShowPost&Board=technical&Post=1842&Idle=0&Sort=0&Order=Descend&Page=0&Session=mp3boombox.9765183101286
one of my last post's discribes the BEST way to use this driver and i'v had many people say they'v had NO problems, if you do have problems i'd bet almost any thing you fall under one of the problem sources in my post. :)
I do strongly reccomend using this vid driver. :) happy hunting
ANY ONE GET A DEER yet?? my bud just tagged one!! 10 pointer

If intrested in one of these please feel free to send me an email

Come on aspiguy I know you want them :) fully working serial port and great audio out thats 2 easy to hook up HEHEH.

oh ya aspiguy when you get some better cooling on your CPU tell me if you think its working any better?? cause i do think 70c or 158F cpu temp is rather excessive. It wouldnt suprise me at all if all your crashing problems went away with better cooling.

Sup! All, well come Dec. 18-31 going to drop audio hack price. from $30+3 to $26 no shipping charge, MAILING fedex priority ONLY! Want faster or different shipping method email me, add that to $26 units are under a 1 lb. packaged..

got about 43 audio mod units built and need to get rid of some excess. There all fully tested.

MP3, which chip are you using for the serial mod, the Max 232 or the 205/235? Is it the limited serial port design, or the full version suggested by Prefect?

Thanks!

max235 CHIP'S ONLY, and i have a mini 10pin connecter for easy installing of the mod to the MB, as for mounting the serial adapter some place. Well thats upto your dremmal skills.
This MOD install is SO easy that i only include a few lined install instruction's. RED wire goes on the end with a little arrow POINTING to the pin1. HOW HARD can that BE :)

Hey mp3boombox, thanks for the info on the 10pin connector. I was wondering, what are you using for putting the actual design together? Are you just soldering the stuff directly or using a breadboard type deal? I haven't seen many pictures of these serial mods, and I'm looking for ideas for mine (hitting radioshack tomorrow to buy the parts probably). Yeah, I realize it would be easier to buy one of your kits - they really are a good deal, especially when considering the time it takes to make one yourself. I bought the i-opener to hack it myself though, and damn it, I'll learn whatever it takes to do it.

I dont use a bread board. but rather SOLDER the wires straight. Now i do change the style of the pins on the chip befor soldering though so its flatter and a little more user friendly to me.
As for finding parts at RAT SHACK HAAAAAAAA HAAAAA HAAAA good luck finding ANY THING with them. pertaining to the SERIAL mod.
I use a speical flat serial connector for connecting your serial devices to. This means on the backside the wires face down not straight there for its flatter. the main serial unit has no bread board and but one THICK part in it so its as small as possable. My goal is saving space in the already cramped space. Plus i use a 10pin mini connector for your ease of use.

For example i got my audio mod main unit to go from 2"x2"x3/4" down to 1"x1"x1/2" You can mount these anywhers size wise.

Yeah, I realize radio shack sucks, but it's all that's available out here (at least the only thing open on the weekend). I hope they can at least muster a cap, some wire, and if I'm lucky, a db9 connector. Heck, maybe they'll even have the cable to crimp to the 10pin connector (it's either that or a hack job on a 44 pin ide connector). Plus I can always pick up another free cue:cat - and apparently they are giving out free cable modems (!) now too.

free cable modems??? do tell!!

as for the mini 10pin connectors, I'v got a lot of these already crimped If your intrested in one. I can tell you right now your NOT going to find a MINI 10pin connector at ratshack THATS for shure. you need to go to NON retal places on the NET to get them. a friend of mine has a retalers license so he can purchase stuff for me. The only thing is that EVEN if i where to send you one of these connectors it would be $5 and i will ONLY ship fedex OR UPS nothing less because i dont wnat to have parts being eaten in the mail. so that would be $2 for part plus $3 for shipping. THATS what it cost's me :) no kidding!!

(no offence aspguy but i got my parts just fine though the bad has more holes in it from ware and tare, I'm lick i wasnt missing any parts.)

so what is this ting on free cable modems???

Here is a new tidbit of info i forgot to post a while ago regarding MIDI music.

My TL082 Dual Op-Amp method for the io audio DOES support midi out. you need to go into the control panel and go to multimedia, then go to your midi tab, now you'v got 3 choices
opl3-sa FM MIDI
opl3-sa MPU MIDI OUT
opl3-sa SOFT WAVE TABLE MIDI OU <- CHOOSE THIS ONE

and you will have MIDI OUT on my audio mod!!!! :) and normal midi on the io speakres as well. The reason you do not have midi out with out changing this option is because the tl082 op-amp is connected to the IO lines BEFOR the preamp heading to the io speakres. thats also where the midi out of the audio chip is addressed to the preamp. so you must choose an OUTPUT pryer to it. :) Also make shure your VOL is turnd up for midi in all places or you may have it muted. got to double check so you dont phyc your self out ;)

good new's going to be testing my new line in, and AUX 1 AND 2 INPUTS. as for the MIC input, i need to trace down to see if there is a cap/resister that can be removed to disable the onboard mic in the front. Other wise your going to get dual input, and if any of you have a hd/fan your going to pick up noise with out the onboard mic being disabled. The other option is to remove the onboard mic and RUN wires from its orignal possion to a mono plug adapter to have a mic input.

If all goes well i'll be adding the LINE in input option to my io audio hack in my next batch. and will just include the parts for already made one's. IF i'v sold you one, and your intrested in an audio line in hack. I'LL either send you an email on requets for how to add the MOD and what parts are needed, or i'll send you the parts needed AT my $$ cost for the parts. MEANINg I MAKE NOTHING off it other then a happy camper :).

Also for those of you whom have CDROM'S hooked upto your IO'S when i'v got my HACK fool proof and 100% working i'll release the INFO for making a low level LINE in for the CDROM line audio.

Also this will speed me up a BIT but if someone could point me to a PDF file on the V5 sound chip. i should be able to locate the SOLDER points of a V5 FOR line out. I may be willing to DONATE a LINE OUT hack to a decent V5 owner who could varify the hack for me. I cant due to the fact that of all my IO'S non are higher then a v4 NO sw4. and all have the yamaha sound chip. Also if someone could get me a REALY GOOD detial pic of the v5 sound chip so i can TRACE all pins. That would help also.
As for my audio hack working IT SHOULD WORK just fine with the v5 audio sound chip THE thing is that there are 2 pins that are going to be required to solder to and i'm not shure where.
