Well, I'm ready to blow away my curent install on the Auto-PC IO in favor of a bigger 20GB hard drive, so maybe I'll give this a try.

I'm planning to do a test installation of Consumer, and then move on to Pro if I can get the installer to work.

I'll post back here when and if it successfully installs.

Does anyone have any favorite benchmarking applications they'd like to see tested on the Whistler IO?

Kudzu

It's the latest MS operating system....available in a beta version to select persons. I tried several beta versions of Windows 2000, had nothing but trouble. I'll wait for the final release.

Installed Whistler build 2410-Personal on a V3 IO. Every device recognized, except for modem, which is initially listed as "unknown device". The Actiontec Win2k "external call waiting" driver doesn't work, but the "Standard 56k V.90 modem" driver does work, (except bps speed lists as "115000" instead of actual ~48k). Monitor is "default monitor" and must be re-set to "800x600 flat panel". OS working fine, not much different than Win2000. Have a yellow (!) on "VIA TECH CPU to AGP Controller", but no ill effect. Auto power off didn't function until checking the box in Control panel/Power/Advanced. IRQ #15 still has USB & Video sharing the IRQ, although several other IRQ's are unused.

Hey guys-

For those who want the new whistler OS, I have it. I need someone to provide some bandwidth so I can share it with you guys, since my upload is slow. It is officially called "Windows Whistler Beta 1" and I have all of the English versions, which include:

Windows Whistler Advanced Server (IA64) Beta 1 - CD Image
Windows Whistler Advanced Server (x86) Beta 1
Windows Whistler Customer Support Diagnostics (x86 and IA64) Beta 1
Windows Whistler Personal (x86) Beta 1
Windows Whistler Professional (IA64) Beta 1 - CD Image
Windows Whistler Professional (IA64) Debug/Checked Beta 1 - CD Image
Windows Whistler Professional (x86) Beta 1
Windows Whistler Professional (x86) Debug/Checked Build Beta 1

I can only let others take it from me for "test and beta purposes only" lol, since I don't want to lose my expensive msdn sub. The x86 versions are between 343 - 371 megs, and the IA64's are 417-461 megs. The diagnostics are 404 megs.

Please let me know as far as bandwidth goes. Thanks

Will it hold 400+ megs? I am looking to put up more than one version, so it will need to hold at least a gig. Or if it holds 400-500, I could just make multiple, but each one needs at least 400 megs

Yes... idrive only holds 50 megs, and my space only holds 300. I suppose I could rar it and zip span it. Im worried about a bandwidth restrictions... i.e. only a gig of transfer a day
