Can someone send me a link to the f r e e d r i v e account that has the V5 modified BIOS? I wanted to try and flash the BIOS myself.

Thanks.

Use the search.

I only replied because I have a followup question. Anybody have the MD5sum for the V5BIOS_patched (or whatever the file is called)? The modified date on the "no-cost drive" is sometime in November. Since anyone can read and write this drive (I presume, especially since I saw all kinds of non-I-O stuff stored there; it's being abused!), I don't know if someone replaced the real bios image with something bogus for "fun". Bad Flash or Wild_pencil or whoever patched the bios back in July or August.

I would sure have egg on my face if that info is on the board here somewhere after my comment above, but I *did* search!

Thanks for the information. I have the same concern. Is that the correct V5 Patched BIOS?

Thanks for the link... I downloaded
these files and just wanted some
simple instructions to install on my V5 IO.

V5BIOS_PATCHED.BIN
FLASH821.EXE
CDBOOT_BIOS_V502F.ALPHATEST.BIN (whats this???)

(I assume you copy the flash821.exe and
v5bios_patched.bin onto the new harddrive
I installed in the IO and then open
the bin file in flash821.exe and choose
"go ahead".

Is it that simple? Anything else I need
to do before installing Win98?

Are there any switches I need to change
within the flash821 s/w ??

Thanks in advance, Teksavy

If you can run the flash utility, so so manually. You don't need any switches, at least I didn't. My machine hung at the end, but re-booted with the new image on it.

The other file is a loader to boot from a CD. If you have a bootable CD you can use it to load win98 right on the I-O. It didn't work for me, but maybe I didn't have the CD set up correctly.
