Does anybody know what the MAXIMUM length of cable is that an IDE drive will reliably still work with ???

(I'm planning to install my 3.5" HDD outside the IO.)

Thank you

I have a cable about22 inches running to a self powered dual
enclosure with 3.5 hdd and cd but never got cd up yet.
No problems with hd cut out flash card area and routed thru there.
Used 1/2 of amiga 1200 hdd cable for 44 pin connector
and soildered to reg full 40 pin ide cable. Not pretty
but works.

There have been some posts about cable lengths of 36"....mine is 25". 18" to my cdrom with another 7" to the hard drive. Everything works fine. I think you'll just have to try it.......

Thanks for your replies.
I took your advice and have succesfully extended the IDE bus outside the IO with a 6 feet SCSI cable, and it works great!

Cyberswine: Six *feet*! Wow! A record!

The spec's 18". I'm probably 2-3 feet (24-36") including the length of the cable inside the unit. Six feet... well, I'm no longer worried about my two-foot cable
