I'v said this befor but yes it IS possable BUT you will need an LCD controler device which will take a db-15 input. plus a power supply. and even then you have to hook up all the wires, chances are slim they'll have the same style of connector.

but other wise YES it will work. the thing that would be ausom is is someone could figur out how to or rather what TFT lcd screen can be sub-ed in. this would be ausom.

WELL, to my knowledge, controllers for DSTN screens are VERY different than TFT controllers, it is LCD specific so it is VERY doubtful that you can easily substitute a TFT screen with minimal modifications. It all depends on what LCD controller the unit uses.

The CyberBlade i7 video controller that the iopener uses is designed to support industry standard TFT and DSTN panels.

AHH, this is true, didn't think of that...but... we need documentation on the cyberblade to get it right. Should be doable with that information, and, more importantly if we can figure out how to drive an LCD with the cyberblade cheaply we could make a lot of money, Graphics boards specifically designed for LCD output are rather expensive considering... This is worth some investigation...

I'd just like to use a TFT screen for the shear speed of the display. it could then be possable to USE the IO as a dvd player. My friend has a laptop with a NICE screen which you can watch movies ect.. on with out flaw. VERY fast.

I'm not sure i was specific enough... I mean take the display out of the iopener and use it on a desktop machine, not replace it.

Hi,

I actually like where this is going. I have seen 10.3 inch TFT LCD on the eBay going for ~$50 only.

I was very interesting in the SUBJECT of this discussion, but then it went way south. Instead of how to take out the screen, it became, how to put IN a screen.

Is there anyone out there, that would have info (other than conceptual information) on how to take out the i-opener screen, and make it possible to plug into the back of a computer.

My intent is too take the i-opener screen and install it into my car, which already has a PIII computer installed in it. This screen would be prefect.

Anyone with any help, please post what you know.

If you just want to use the IOpener to display video from another PC then the easiest way would probably be to use a USB device with VGA and/or Video in to send it thru the IOpener in Windows. The framerate will probably be slow, but just for winamp and song selection it should be OK.

or use something like the free remote control software vnc, which is incidentally one of the programs included in jailbait..

OK guys, it IS possible to use ANY LCD with a PC BUT you need a special video controller for LCD displays. My point was if someone can get a cyberblade based video card and we figure out how to mod the IO to use a TFT screen it would be simple to mod a cyberblade based PCI video card for a reg. PC so that you could use an iopener or other type of display. Either way it probably isn't worth the effort, you are better off getting some kind of NTSC output for your in-car computer and routing it to like a 5 or 6 inch LCD that aren't all that expensive, many people have done this and it works OK for most things. Hope this helps.
